Read MBOTF. Get through book 2 and you'll be hooked, once book three gets rolling you won't put the series down. There are a lot of things about the series that I actually prefer over ASOIAF, and that's saying a lot.

You respect the writers’ decision. I knew the arc, and that was it. They can’t stick to the books 100 percent. It’s impossible—they only have 10 hours per season. They have got to keep it dramatic and exciting, and extraneous stuff along the way gets lost in order to maintain the quality of brilliant show.

I'd argue that where we stand in the books as of right now she is pretty damn important. She is wiping the Frey family out one hanging at a time. And she has captured Brienne and Pod and is about to hang them.

Pretty important to all of those characters stories and highly probable she is important to Jamie's story within the first few pages of tWoW also
