Here's GRRM's interview with Vanity Fair. May ease some minds about the show passing the books

Well 2 more years for WoW.

Then add at least 5 years for aDoS.

They will catch up.

I really don't see how they don't catch up. Especially if they're shooting for something around 7 seasons AND GRRM is now wanting a "couple more years" just for WoW.

I want to print that out and take it to every lit and English teacher I have ever had and tell them to go frick themselves.

quote:

They know certain things. I’ve told them certain things. So they have some knowledge, but the devil is in the details. I can give them the broad strokes of what I intend to write, but the details aren’t there yet.

Basically, saying they can catch up all they want, it's not going to change the ending of the written series. So David and Dan might be sitting at the end with their dicks in their hand.

And it’s my hope that they’ll do it that way and then, long before they catch up with me, I’ll have published The Winds of Winter, which’ll give me another couple years

I think he is saying once he publishes tWoW it will give him a couple more yrs. Not he needs a couple more years to complete tWoW

HBO should take some time off for a Robert's Rebellion miniseries then.

That's exactly what I was thinking when reading that. Like I've been saying for a while now, there's a lot of details missing and at some point David and Dan will have to address it or there's going to be a big WTF moment at the end.

He mentions doing a prequel in the interview.

Did anybody actually read the interview? Or the big headline that says he has a plan to insure the show doesn't pass the books?

They could and should do a season or two of Robert's Rebellion. It would make sense and is needed.

Doing Dunk and Egg or the new novella would be dumb and unnecessary, but the Hodors would benefit from some information about Robert's Rebellion.

Plus it'd be awesome to see certain characters like Rhaegar/Arthur Dayne and certain scenes like Tower of Joy/Robert vs Rhaegar

Honestly, what they should do is film the final season and a season of Robert's Rebellion simultaneously. Air Robert's Rebellion before the final season as padding for the book.

I'd definitely be in favor of that, but didn't Martin say that he doesn't see the need for a RR series since whatever "questions are left" will allegedly be answered by the last book?

Yes he did say that. I think a Dunk & Egg prequel series would be cool to watch too though

Martin seems completely delusional.
