I wish GRRM would go ahead and die so I wouldn't care if Beinoff and Weis finished the series.

Stormlight Archive >>>>>> Song of Ice and Fire anyways and theres no way Brandon Sanderson is gonna quit on his magnum opus like GRRM did.

There are tons of authors as good or better than what Martin is putting out at this point. It's pretty pathetic. Hell, his freaking assistant Ty Franck is putting out better writing at this point. The Expanse is pretty awesome.

Well, while not that surprising, that was certainly depressing.

Yeah, it's something most everyone suspected, but now it is known. Oh well. It's not the end of the world and my life will go on just the same as before, but it is a disappointment.

I will say I have the advantage of watching the first two (maybe three? can't remember) seasons before starting reading, so I have experience with the show being ahead.

damn dude
you may be taking this whole fictional world thing a little too seriously
wishing the author would hurry up and die so you can get an ending?

He's losing millions by doing this. Many people won't buy the next one if they already know what happens next in the story.

I seriously think he knows this and is changing the story

I've thought about that. I wonder what effect that would have, with a show and it's source material diverging like that. Would people still care about the book if they advertised the fact that it and the show had completely different endings?

Is there a precedent for this?

Prediction:

His next update will be that he is done writing the books.

I've had this feeling for a while. Combination of writer's block and the fact that he doesn't know how to finish the story.

Sucks.

I seriously think he could give two shits about the money. HBO has paid him plenty, and he can just let them finish his story. I seriously doubt he even wants to finish the books at this point.

If I thought he would have the book finished within the next 2 years, I would stop watching the show. I have zero faith that he will ever finish another book, so I guess I'll just focus on HBO, and give up on the books. It sucks.
I think when the fans figured out the truth about Jon Snow, it ruined the whole thing for him. Now he doesn't know whether to change things or continue.

Would you stop coming on this board? Because Hodors will be starting threads with spoilers in the title weekly if not daily.

I was gonna wait for the book but I don't think avoiding spoilers is possible

I didn't think about spoilers . I don't think there is any way I could avoid enough people.

That was the conclusion I came to.

And its not only people. I remember when the Red Wedding episode aired it was all over the media in all forms. They were talking about it with very detailed spoilers on CNN with a brief and token "spoiler warning". Hell I even had a buddy that got spoiled for Star Wars 7 on opening day by some radio host in upstate SC that saw it on Thursday (guy lost his job)

Its just not possible to wait an unknown number of years without getting spoiled. And lets be honest, Winds of Winter isn't coming out in 2016 or 2017 and probably won't even be written by GRRM.

It makes me worry that a lot of people are going to put off watching the show in anticipation of the book coming out before 2017. Thus leading to declining viewers and HBO doing the Deadwood costs cancelation.

Then the story is never finished in either medium.

I'm pretty sure the vast majority of the fans aren't book readers. Game of Thrones will maintain high viewership until the story is completed.

IF, this happens it is HBO's fault. While the fat man is dragging his arse to finish the line, HBO was fully aware that he was and decided to actually skip shite and go into full sprint to catch up with the books. They could have easily extended the show another season before "for the watch..." and chose to push as hard as they could.
