Does he though??

Seems like he’s been working on everything but completing the series. And I don’t think he give a single shite about his fans.

Also, your comment on the second book is interesting. It’s probably better than the first book and I feel like almost everyone that has read them would say as much. Not hating on you at all, I’m just

You do realize he's talking about Rothfuss with the second book right? Because a large percentage of people (myself included) consider Wise Mans Fear to be a massive pile of shite. I literally don't know anyone that thinks it is better than Name of the Wind.

You know, a lot of us claimed the show got bad when they ran out of source material.

But now I’m starting to wonder if they HAD the source material and the shitty ending we got was actually all Martin.

I don't think the 2nd book is a massive pile of shite like you do. I still think its better than 90% of fantasy out there.

Its just not as good as 1 (understatement, Name of the Wind is an All-Time great fantasy novel), and the uh...middle part is rightly met with hate.

He simply knows he cannot finish in 3 books like he thought and is just stuck.

No to both of these things.

He’s literally lied to his publishing teams a couple years back claiming he was almost ready to publish WoW. Really strung them out for almost 6 months, with them continually pushing the publishing date out. And that was pre-COVID.

His excuse is he only writes from home. If he was truly that close, why didn’t he finish when we were locked down due to COVID for several months and he had no Cons or anything to attend?

Then, on top of that, anytime anyone questions him he projects and BLAMES the fans for being meanies towards him. Then talks about writing some totally different project.

He’s a grifter at this point.

The uh... middle part is like 200-300 pages and like a third of the book. That's a bit hard to just brush off. Remove all the author wish fulfillment and there might be a good book in there somewhere. But the entire last half of the book is extremely mediocre.

I don't consider Name of the Wind an all time book myself (it is a very good book, don't get me wrong), but I'm more a character and plot guy. And outside of Kvothe the characters are weak, and the plot is so so (pretty run of the mill outsider genius in school story ala Enders Game).

The prose is of course fantastic and I would definitely put him in the top tier of prose. So I can see why people who value prose the most would have that book near the top.

But other than that Name of the Wind isn't anything special to me. He tends to spend tons of time on minutiae rather than the cool parts of the story. The Chandrian could be very good bad guys, but they are barely focused on. This issue is ramped up to ten in the second book, with everything interesting that is mentioned mostly glossed over so the author can focus on hundreds of pages of sex wish fulfillment word porn.

I think a perfect example is that I couldn't really distinguish his two friends in my head. They were both around, but didn't really serve differing purposes.

He's said this multiple times but it will really be up to his heirs. How's his HBO money holding up? If that fat frick dies broke I doubt if his clear wishes are going to hold up long at all.

This is the most infuriating part about it.

Remember when he was rushing to get book 6 out before season 6? He made a big deal about how he was racing to complete it in time, then made a big deal about how sad he was at missing the deadline to get it published in time. As if he was ever fricking close.

Yep. He can’t figure out how to get Dany to Westeros, and that is his ending.
It’s not a coincidence that Bran is the first POV chapter in the series.

I just wish he'd finish the dunk and egg series. Some of the best prose writing I've read and has really interesting topics to be covered

This is 99.99995% of the issue - the dude is gun shy and doesn't want to be crucified like the TV show producers were.

Seriously? That’s a dick move. I hoped Brandon Sanderson would come in and save the day.

Yes. He’s commented on it and apparently had a ton of high paid attorneys draw up all kinds of documents to try and make that stick.

He is very butthurt about people commenting on his weight and age and never finishing.

Why would he die broke? He is probably one of the richest authors on the planet.
