Me too. The catalog of books for Baldwin County is quite impressive. Typically I can put a book on hold, it will be delivered to the library of my choosing in about 2 or 3 days. I haven't purchased a book in a long long time

I read 1 book last year, a few to the kids, I’ve got to get back into reading (and writing)

I’m going for one a month this year. So, my goal is:

12 Books
1. Divine Secrets of the Ya-Ya Sisterhood by Wells
2. Animal Farm by George Orwell
3. Beach Read by Emily Henry
4. The Secret Book of Flora Lea by Patti Callahan Henry

Goal last year was 52 and I hit 80. I need to slow up my pace a bit this year. New target is 48 or 4 per month.

These were my stats for 2023:
80 books totaling 44,731 pages
Avg. Book length was 559 pgs.
6.7 books per month
3,728 pgs. per month
34 Kindle Unlimited books
36 Libby borrows
10 purchased

(yes I'm a nerd who tracks books with a spreadsheet)

The Executioner’s Song by Norman Mailer. I’m embarrassed that it took me this long to read it.

Decided this year to mix in a few classics here and there. Picked up Tom Sawyer and Huck Finn yesterday. Never read those as a kid. List below once I finish them:

1: Blood Meridian
2. One Second After
3. One year after
4. Final day
5. 5 years after

I haven't put much thought into any reading goals/challenges in many years and my brain may have gone soft from too much Tubi. I probably read more than I realize, but not much fiction anymore, which is what I really miss. My goal for 2024 is pretty conservative, just one a month = 12. Already finished the first one, but I'm currently reading 4 others.

1) The Creative Act - Rick Rubin
2) 5/3/1 - The Simplest and Most Effective Training System for Raw Strength - Jim Wendler
3) Atomic Habits - James Clear
4) Uncertain Ground - Phil Klay
5) The Outsiders - S.E. Hinton
6) Kolchak: The Night Stalker - 50th Anniversary
7) The Chris Farley Show - Tom Farley Jr. & Tanner Colby

I recently saw a post about a book called Shine Little Light on Amazon. Might check it out since there's a deep storyline behind it!

With this thread pinned to the top, it takes away the fun of the “bump.” Haha.

Decided in January I’d pick the Kindle back up and get back to reading like I should. I’ve been hitting some series I like that are quick reads and based in historical and scientific fiction with espionage agencies sprinkled in.

Cotton Malone series by Steve Berry
The Warsaw Protocol
The Kaiser’s Web
The Last Kingdom
The Atlas Maneuver

Sigma series by James Rollins
The Last Odyssey
Kingdom of Bones
Tides of Fire

Scot Harvath series by Brad Thor
Spymaster
Backlash
Near Dark
Black Ice
Rising Tiger

Mitch Rapp series by Vince Flynn/Kyle Mills
Red War

I haven't maintained a serious reading habit in years, so I'm just going to start with two books, both books that friends recommended I read. One fiction, & one nonfiction.

1. The Midnight Library
2. Atomic Habits

I'm starting today. If I can get back into reading over the rest of this month, I'll come up with an updated list.

Updated my first page post with my read list for the first quarter. 28 so far, but that number is inflated by a few short novellas.

Libby is great. Finding a good library is the key. I use the Indianapolis library and can get just about any book. There is a waiting list for some. I’ve read 43 books so far in 2024 all free through Libby.

1. The History of the Ancient World - Susan Wise Bauer 896p
2. In Search of Schrodinger’s Cat: Quantum Physics and Reality - John Gribbin 320p
3. The Wager: A Tale of Shipwreck, Mutiny, and Murder - David Grann 354p
4. Powers and Thrones: A New History of the Middle Ages - Dan Jones 656p
5. The Many Hidden Worlds of Quantum Mechanics - Sean Carroll
6. One Hundred Years of Solitude - Gabriel Garcia Marquez 468p
7. Dark Matter - Blake Crouch 352p
8. On the Trail of Assassins - Jim Garrison 407p
9. Project Hail Mary - Andy Weir 476p

If you’re a history buff I couldn’t recommend Dan Jones’ books more highly. The detail is incredible. Marquez’ book is considered a fabulous classic but I think something must be lost in translation or something I really didn’t like it. Quantum Physics is my latest rabbit hole obviously.
