During the SEC Coaches Teleconference on Wednesday, several coaches were asked about Oregon's international 12-man penalty vs. Ohio State last week.

One of those coaches was Ole Miss' Lane Kiffin, who compared the situation to faking injuries in order to gain an advantage. Per SDS:
quote:

“Heard Lanning talk about how much they practice situations,” Lane Kiffin said. “So, he capitalized on the situation.”

Lane Kiffin was then asked a follow-up question about whether or not that’s something that he had Ole Miss practice. That’s when he compared the reaction to Lanning’s decision to put 12 men on the field to faking injuries strategically. In particular, he noted the different public reactions.

“We have a scenario where that pops up,” Kiffin said. “It’s interesting, though, I find that all this national talk about someone faking an injury, and people shouldn’t do that. I’m not saying I don’t agree with. But I just found it interesting that everybody thinks this is awesome that you went against the rules and put more people on the field but then everybody’s [upset] when faking an injury. So just found it interesting.”

For one thing you get a penalty for 12 men on the field. You don't get penalized for faking an injury. Which is considered by most as cheating!

Is using the 12 men to get a penalty just for getting the clock to stop?

Doesn't the clock stop on all penalties?

What's his point?

Lanning sent a twelfth guy out because it’s live-ball penalty so even though OSU got 5 yards, it allowed Lanning to run an extra defender for prevent defense AND the play still ran time off the clock.

I'm trying to conjure up a scenario where getting a penalty is a reward for something. wtf is he talking about.

I can think of one 12-men on the field penalty that didn't go so well for the 12'th man's team = Tennessee. .

it worked for Oregon as they ran time off the clock which is what he wanted. too bad for him they already changed the rule

Somebody seems mighty defensive about feigning injuries...Gee, I wonder why. Joey F. forgot to mention that Oregon was PENALIZED, but none of his feigned injuries were penalized.

Well, I think after the rule was exploited for the 100th time, people won't be feeling the same way about it. lol.
