Following Washington Commanders QB Taylor Heinicke seen on the team's plane with a beer earlier this week, the NFL sent all 32 teams a memo regarding their policy prohibiting alcohol at team facilities and while traveling on Friday...
quote:

"In light of recent events, clubs are reminded that League policy prohibits alcoholic beverages, including beer, in the locker rooms, practice or office facilities, or while traveling on team buses or planes at any time during the preseason," the memo read. "This applies to all players, coaches, club personnel, and guests traveling with your team."

Everything was cool. Have a cocktail on the return flight. No biggie. And then some moron from the Tennessee Titans had to ruin it for everyone. Thanks bro.

I would put $1MM on it that there is a bottle of scotch or bourbon in most NFL league officials offices.

I don't see anything wrong with this rule. They're on company time, on a company paid-for jet. An NFL player in public represents not only himself, but his team and his league. He can surely wait for the beer until he gets to his hotel.

I completely didn't know this. This is a league rule? Dumb.

The NFL is happy to take those advertising dollars from the different types of alcohol/beer that have commercials during games, but they don’t want these grown men drinking in their own team facilities.

while traveling on team buses or planes

Would that include the private jets of the owners?

Are all the support personnel getting paid while they are traveling before and after games if this is defined as "company time."

I am willing to bet all the support personnel are paid a salary, which means that yes, they're on company time.

Maybe it was a Budweiser zero that he got at a World Cup Game?

Does that not say “preseason”? I don’t see anything noting regular season or playoffs

Whoever wrote the quote above was extremely lazy. The policy in the Twitter link reads "preseason, regular season, or postseason".

You have got to be kidding me. Lawsuit anyone?

Absolutely. The second a player or coach leaves the plane drunk and pulls a Henry Ruggs the lawsuit against the NFL and the team will be massive. That's why they don't let players drink on the job.

Here's a little secret - if the boss says you can't drink on company time you can't drink on company time. It's really that simple.

In the meantime, NFL continues to collect fat checks from Budwieser, Miller, Jaegermeister, etc.

These are grown fricking men.
