Who Was Named Best College Town In Country? Ann Arbor.
© Jasen Vinlove-USA TODAY Sports
According to WalletHub, whoever they are, here are their top 10 best college towns in the United States...

1. Ann Arbor, MI
2. Orlando, FL
3. Rexburg, ID
4. Provo, UT
5. Austin, TX
6. Las Vegas, NV
7. Scottsdale, AZ
8. West Lafayette, IN
9. Tampa, FL
10. San Diego, CA

The towns were measured on three factors: "wallet friendliness,” social environment, and academic and economic opportunities, and ranked each on a 100-point scale for each town.

I am not sure if the criteria is exactly the set of tools for a full evaluation of a "college town". I mean, I visited West Lafayette Indiana, and went to school in Bloomington, Indiana at IU for grad school and Bloomington, is far more appealing. A giant city does not exactly scream college town to me.

"academic and economic opportunities" This is why Baton Rouge was eliminated from contention entirely.

Criteria genius. Wallet friendliness, social environment and academic and economic opportunities. Not party schools.

The criteria and premise of the entire ranking are utter shite. Why even say "college towns?" Just say cities. Ranking the top "college towns" implies that you are, in fact, ranking a specific sub-group of cities that are considered college towns. Nobody considers Vegas a college town. Nobody considers Orlando a college town. The entire idea of including economic opportunity in a college town ranking is retarded. People don't go to Oxford, MS to get a job. They move there to go Ole Miss. Hence the reason Oxford is actually a college town. This dumb ranking is analogous to publishing "the 10 most dangerous dogs" and having #1 be grizzly bear.

"3. Rexburg, ID 4. Provo, UT 8. West Lafayette, IN" These automatically make this list bullshite.

Austin, San Diego, Vegas, Tampa, Orlando are not "college towns," they're big, tourist-friendly cities that happen to have colleges in them. When I think college town, I think a small city that revolves around the school--Knoxville, Athens, Gainesville, Oxford, etc. shite list.
