For those of you who missed it, the LSU Women's Gymnastics team finished the 2019 season as the NCAA National Runner-Up, matching their highest finish in school history after scoring a 197.825.

To congratulate their successful season, LSU put up billboards to celebrate to the team and thank the fans in Baton Rouge.

Then came along internet tough guy Darren Rovell who ripped LSU and the squad for the billboards on Sunday.

The same guy who tweets about finishing 21,463 in a marathon and shows off the gold plated shoes in ran in.

The same guy who tweets about how an article he wrote came in second place...

The same guys who said Northwestern (his alma mater) paying for a billboard in NYC was smart...

Here's Rovell trying to defend his tweet...

Rovell's thirst for attention will never end.

Someone needs to tell this pos the difference between what an advertisement sign and a big thank you card is.

The girls were deserving of the billboard...the asswipe should have kept his mouth shut! Journalism & reporting is truly dead today- they want to have the story more about themself and their contrary remarks than the actual event or person(s) achievements. Just as bad as political reporting of today if not worse...

He wanted his 15 minutes. Guess this is the only way a third rate journalist can get it.

He's such a hack. There's a reason he's out at ESPN and working at some fly-by-night bull shite website.

This is equivalent to a football team winning a semi final bowl game. Didn’t Alabama celebrate publicly for the orange bowl win this past year. Or did Alabama celebrate it privately.

Why give this guy even more attention by putting this up on TD?

I think they should have just congratulated the girls for doing their best. The Runner Up part should have been left out. Still that guy is a douche tho.

It's an LSU billboard. LSU already has the ad space so the university chose to put the LSU Gymnastics team pic and congratulate them for their accomplishment. This billboard wasn't rented specifically for this.

2nd place out of how many teams, out of how many girls who do gymnastics in college, out of how many girls who do gymnastics in general? Yea, its an accomplishment to get to this point, let them have it.

I’m against participation trophies as much as the next guy but this isn’t the hill you wanna die on Darren. Those kids worked hard, performed and had the best season in the history of Tiger Gymnastics. They deserve to be recognized for what they accomplished, not get hate from some toolbag middle aged journalist.

Not saying that this is YOUR sentiment, but it made me think.... Since WHEN is a national runner-up trophy/or 2nd place considered a "participation trophy?" I mean 2nd place is nothing to sneeze at. I think it highlights in our culture that it's only the "winners" that matter. Only the "winners" are deserving of praise and acknowledgement. And that's not to say I am for "participation trophies", but THIS is FAR from that. These ladies are the 2nd-best Gymnastics squad in the country! And while they didn't win it all, that is an accomplishment worthy of recognition.
