Brian Kelly spoke with reporters during his Monday press conference and was asked about LSU offensive coordinator Joe Sloan and his response to those who are critical of him:
quote:

"I had to answer questions about being critical with Blake (Baker) last year, Kelly responded. "He (Joe Sloan) is doing what he's asked to do to manage the games the way we need him to."

"We have a Top-10 defense, I believe, in the country. And we need to play to that strength. So sometimes we have to pull back a little bit here and there. He's being a great coach from that perspective. Look, offensive coordinators want to score points, too. But sometimes I'm taping the brakes here a little bit in those situations because that's going to be the identity of this football team."

The defense is good enough to limit the offensive play calling exposure. Nuss also has an injury to his torso.

Relax!!

Hmm sooo don't open it up and score points is the plan?

And there it is Kelly has handed him a playbook of 5 plays. I particular love the runs to the right and the 3 and 2 runs for a loss of 3. Thanks BK running the offense like Les Miles did.

He knows that the Off can't do what we all think and want them to do. He's gotta save face somehow. If the Off had a pulse he would not have said that.

I don't recommend applying tape to the brakes. More importantly, CBK suggesting we dial back the offense? Dafuq?

That’s definitely one way to encourage top skill guys to come. It would almost make you feel like you’re just out there giving the Def a breather. I love having a great defense again, but it’s ok to have both. Or if you have both, use them and don’t hold them back.

What encourages them to come is WINNING

I use to agree with you, but now it seems to be money.

BUT WE DON’T HAVE BOTH. That’s what he’s saying. He’s saying the offense can’t execute Big plays and scoring plays at will, so they’re just going to manage the game on offense. Then the defense comes in and holds the other team to fewer
points. I don’t like the way it looks either, but that’s what he’s saying. Quit trying to twist his words.

He's sandbagging...our O has not looked like scoring a lot of points. It's easy to point to the D and say that they'll win it. I hope he lets the O run up the score Saturday and we can go into ole miss with both sides feeling good.

why can't your identity be that you have a great defense AND a great offense. Why tap on the brakes? I think if this offense could score points at will, it would be doing so. So, since our defense is so good, he's afraid that we will run up the score on teams if our offense performs at a high level too? Come on.

He knows this offense is handicapped right now.

Why tape the brakes when you could tap them

Tap the brakes on offense. Is Kelly betting on the game?

So don’t score points ? I don’t get the upside of not wanting to be good offensively.

Oh. So it is actually CBK who is responsible for the lousy offense we are having to watch. Get off the breaks coach and let's see what we can do with all of the weapons we have. We just gotta get Nuss on the same page.

So Kelly just rubber stamped the conservative play calling and said to expect more of it because we have a decent defense. What happens when your defense is having a bad night? Do you just click the on button for the offense? No, because that element of your offense has become rusty not to mention a huge turn off to potential offensive recruits.

Top 25 defense, not top 10. Wait till you play some really good offenses like OM in two weeks.

A ole miss offense who has played a top 50 defense yet
