Tennessee Chancellor, President Of The SEC Executive Committee, Says League "Won't Budge"

The SEC appears to be digging in as its ongoing eligibility battle involving LSU and former NFL players heads toward a pivotal court hearing on Thursday.

Tennessee chancellor Donde Plowman, president of the SEC's executive committee, told ESPN on Tuesday that conference leaders remain united behind the rule prohibiting players who signed professional contracts from returning to college.

"We have a responsibility to try and lead the best we can in this time of chaos," Plowman said. "Our group is united on this. This is not a rule we will budge on."

Plowman added: "Enough is enough."

The comments come as LSU awaits more clarity on the eligibility of former NFL players Dae'Quan Wright and Zxavian Harris, both of whom signed NFL contracts before pursuing an opportunity to return to college.

A Louisiana judge previously issued a temporary restraining order preventing the SEC and commissioner Greg Sankey from enforcing the rule against players involved in the lawsuit. A hearing on a preliminary injunction is scheduled for Thursday in Baton Rouge.

"It's not a new rule," Plowman said. "We didn't just cook up a rule."

SEC presidents and chancellors have also authorized significant penalties for programs that violate the policy.

When asked by ESPN whether the situation could ultimately escalate to LSU being suspended or expelled from the SEC, Plowman called that an "extraordinary step," but acknowledged the option exists in the conference handbook.

"We are prepared to defend our rules and our authority to defend our rules," Plowman said.

“Won’t budge” is strong language when it comes to a judge’s court order

I guess there line of thinking is, the judge has no say so in matters of the conference punishing the teams. You can choose to play the players in accordance with the ruling, but the SEC can punish you for their rules...... Thats the only thing I can come up with.

Not if the judge says,"The SEC conference cannot punish a league team if they play one of these players (plantiffs)" Of course, if the judge rules against the players, LSU will not have them on the roster, much less play them so this "episode" will be over. I guess we will find out some time on Thursday.

They are wrong if that’s their line of thinking. I’m taking it as more of them saying they’re going to continue fighting this in court even past Thursday’s ruling.

Tennessee doesn’t have an active grind with kiffin do they?
I’ve seen to recall Bobby Hill talking about throwing shite at him when he was in Tennessee. Why the frick is that fricker not fined for that bullshite? The SEC is a fricking shite hole and their mouthpiece. Stinky is nothing but a little bitch.

Bama had a GLeague Player for 5 games and NADA from Skanky.
TAMU has a GLeague player. UT has a guy that went to multiple NFL mini camps. Don’t get me started with all the euro league players who “aren’t pros” my arse like Peja and Tony Parker were terrible playing there and the NBA. It’s all a joke. Texas has 42 athletes that filed for an injunction to go to multiple schools for multiple sports. Sorry, this is a legal issue and not an LsU OR SEC OR NCAA ISSUE.

Sit the players in question and play the game. We don’t need legal distractions. This team can be special.

If the goal is to prevent 5th and 6th year players from playing to give opportunity to younger players as Texas coach says then why Ole Miss QB is allowed to play despite NCAA prohibiting him from playing? Did SEC take any action against Ole Miss? To have any credibility they need to treat Ole Miss thesame way.

Texas currently has a former nfl player on their roster. LSU doesn’t. They only mention LSU….Anyway, saying you will break the law by not following a court order is not smart. NCAA screwed this up from the start and should just take their medicine for one year.

"We didn't just cook up a rule."

LOL!!! Nnnnooooo, you didn't cook the rule you are talking about but the NCAA DID cook up the 5 for 5 rule right after the pro drafts were held and didn't give a heads up to the 2022 class that they were going to "cook up the 5 for 5 rule". The timing of all this is still the most vulnerable part of the NCAA action. If they had done it in March say or even late this fall, the players wouldn't have a case at all.

Every player that has ever signed a pro contract in Europe or anywhere else in any other league like softball should be banned from college athletics.
Any athlete that has ever signed a contract to play for a university should be banned.
Oh wait.

These other states didn’t get a judge to grant a TRO in their states. LSU did. Nobody else is wanting to try to cheat.

Doesn't South Carolina have a player in the same situation? If so, that make you wrong Touchdown Tony. And doesn't Texas already have a player who practiced with an NFL team just like these players did? The only difference being he didn't sign a contract! So writing their signature on a piece of paper made them more of a professional than he is? Make if make sense!

Yall budged like a mfer when ole miss got an alumni judge to give them all the middle finger and say “yeah chambliss can play a 6th year “. I love this is the hill they wanna die on. Keeping players from a fifth year acting like they went to the league and won a Super Bowl and came back. This is the best and most profitable avenue for these young men and their football futures. They just feel like Kiffin is spearheading it and they wanna flex their little baby muscles. I hate to tell them but if judge says it’s fine then there’s literally nothing they can do about it. And there will be verbiage about retroactive punishment. The only downside is that they will absolutely see to it that we don’t get a single call our way all season but wtf else is new.

The SEC can punish LSU with directed officiating. If they try it, hope the FBI intercepts any written or oral instructions.

This is Tennessee and Ole Miss running thru mouth because of hatred of Lane Kiffin. They are the ones leading the rest of the SEC with this imo. The court has spoken and they don’t like it!

They don't have to budge. They can just be wrong and unable to enforce their arbitrary edicts once a judge strikes them down.
