LSU running back Derrius Guice was in beast mode at the gym this week, squatting 583-pounds.

Love the energy in the weight room.

For high bar squatting like Olympic athletes do as well as athletes in general; the bar was placed just fine.

Only flaw would be that he may not gone deep enough and that subjective. For his purposes this squat was awesome and he's a beast.

Now if this were some national powerlifting championship meet then maybe some a-hole judge would say he wasn't deep enough.

This guy may damn well squat 660 by the time he finishes his career here.

It's the reps that count and not that you lifted that shite once!!

Retard. 583 is ridiculous, freak strength.

Do you lift? If not then stfu.

Ex. Most intermediate to above average folks can squat 305-350 at 170 pounds or so. So in workouts they rep 70-80% of their 1 rep max at 200-245 pounds for 5 rep sets.

This dude is hitting 583 and playing with 405 in workouts. shite is crazy.

Btw lifting heavy is how you get stronger. Not hitting a bunch if reps on light weight

What P bean said. That is word for word truth for power lifting.

while I don't agree with your perspective, a lot of folks don't realize how strong players have been since the 80's. Victor Jones, for example, could knock out multiple reps with 585 (6 plates) in 1988-89. Andolsek was a 700+ lb squatter....granted he's a legend. Hell, Raymond Smoot easily toyed with 405 for 10+ reps. I hit 525 out of HS before coming to LSU.

Guice's play and overall athleticism speak for themselves....we don't need to find other ways to prop him up when the ones that count the most are other-worldly.
