Report: LSU OLB Marcel Brooks Has Entered The Transfer Portal

LSU outside linebacker Marcel Brooks has entered his name into the NCAA transfer portal, according to Shea Dixon with 247 Sports.

Brooks, a sophomore from Ft. Worth, Texas, played in 11 games last year and recorded eight tackles and 1.5 sacks.

On Friday, sophomore linebacker Marcel Brooks put his name into the transfer portal and can now be contacted by other college programs, multiple sources confirmed to the Geaux247 staff. Sources also confirmed that Brooks had a conversation with LSU's staff on Friday morning before making his decision to enter the portal.

A player is allowed to enter his name into the transfer portal and land at another college program, or they may pull their name out and remain at their current four-year institution.

ok just did a little research; we can thank dave aranda for this transfer....aranda has been steady recruiting marcel since before he left LSU....i know for certain aranda has also been recruiting that 5 star LB LSU commit for 2021 out of cali, and supposedly there are others he has been recruiting as well....i find this highly disturbing from an ethical standpoint. Here's to hoping the NCAA cracks down on Aranda's underhanded and backdoor tactics to poach LSU players and coaches....

Well if Aranda is recruiting LSU players who are enrolled that is a serious recruiting violation. I can't see Orgeron putting up with that.

Recruiting current players is one thing but recruiting kids that arent enrolled is definitely NOT against the rules. Nothing is finalized until the ink dries and the fax goes through and is accepted.

yeah this is a shocker because he had a lot of potential and seems to be a game changer....so i thought for sure he would have a starting position on lock this year....i was really looking forward to him becoming the honey badger of our defense....i wonder what happened...most of the transfers i've seen are because the transferee realized he was not going to start anytime soon or had just got beaten out of a starting position in the spring so they want to go somewhere they think they can start....i doubt that is the case with Marcel because he is too good for that to happen...it baffles me that none of these LSU coverage websites/media outlets ever seem to have any diligence or basic rudimentary investigative journalism skills when it comes to getting the story on stuff like this.

Whoa...did not see this coming at all. Like others - was really looking forward to seeing him play a larger role. Impact player for sure. Thought he could have been an Isaiah Simmons type player for us. Good luck, Marcel.

Per shea dixon, its not about position switch, hes dealing with some personal issues and wants to move move back home. His family could be going through some things. He wants to be closer to his mom. TCU in play

They should seriously consider moving Jacoby Stevens to LB and using Brooks in the same way that Stevens was used at SS in 2019. According to Coach O Stevens (about 230) is pound for pound one of the strongest players on the roster. With our inexperience at inside LB his presence their would greatly fill a void. He thrives playing close to the line of scrimmage and isn't great in pass coverage. Brooks on the other hand, is one of the fastest players on the team and a marvelous open field tackler. He could still occasionally blitz the QB from the safety spot and cover RBs/slot receivers well enough to not be a liability. We just had a safety transfer out last week. There is room for Brooks in our secondary.

Who can blame the guy? He’s a safety/olb who’s being asked to move to mlb in a 4-3 and take on guards / centers. Collateral damage of defensive philosophy change. Best wishes at Baylor.

Why? He will be playing at another power 5 program and moat likely he will get to play his most natural posistion,if not, he would have went somewhere else besides where he ends up. Tells me he may be better off when it comes to NFL evaluation s

I don't all the talk about him wanting to be a safety. This kid was always billed as a LB/DE, and you could clearly see that's where his skills were geared toward. How could he think he was going to play any other position, and what makes him think any of other team would have used him any differently? This feels like a waste. What a shame.

I know he's underweight, guys. You're missing the point. He was supposed to GAIN weight, because his ability to rush the passer is his greatest attribute, and it was expected that he'd put on the wight necessary to handle the LB position. He did not, however, because he apparently wasn't interested in being anything other than a safety. And that is what I'm questioning. I have no idea why he wants to stray from what gave him the best chance to be successful.

I’m willing to bet that he would be just as good at strong safety as he could be at LB. to get him on the field they had to move him to LB. it was a move based on necessity.

Not surprising at all he did not like moving to linebacker and I feared this. The first thing that I looked at was his weight when he came back and it was the same.

Damn, this upsets me because this kid is a real player with great potential! Why?? I don't understand, is Orgeron not giving him enough attention or something, I don't get it. I looked for him to start this season. My only guess is that he didn't wanna play LB'er and wanted to play the safety position, but dammit, man, I wish he would change his mind. This kid is a difference maker, please Orgeron make him stay??
