The quality of those diamonds is likely subpar. It's going to be SI2's with a lot of inclusions and color that's G+. In a nutshell, he probably has diamonds worth a few hundred thousand (assuming each is around 6.5 carats and reasonably well cut). The rest is mark up from a jeweler that made crazy margins.
