Officials from LSU and BYU reportedly met with ESPN on Sunday to discuss possibly moving the season opener in Houston due to Hurricane Harvey which has caused “catastrophic flooding” in the city.

The game is scheduled to be played on Saturday, September 2nd in NRG Stadium but potential relocation options could include LSU's Tiger Stadium in Baton Rouge or the Superdome in New Orleans. Per SBNation.com:
quote:

“Officials from both schools will meet with ESPN on Sunday to discuss moving the game away from Houston’s NRG Stadium,” the report reads. “Two potential relocation sites are LSU’s Tiger Stadium or New Orleans’ Mercedes-Benz Superdome. A source told SB Nation both schools are committed to playing the game Saturday in a different city.”
Playing the game on Sunday is not an option as BYU doesn’t allow its sports teams to compete on Sundays, due to a Church of Latter Day Saints policy.

The earlier a decision is made, the better. It gives those who want to go the opportunity to make plans. I know there's a lot of moving parts so I guess we will know when ESPN makes their decision.
user avatar
Exactly. Just make a decision and go with it. If you wait too long it ends up like the florida fiasco last year.

Let's play it at Lambeau. Last year was a blast except for the outcome.

Not sure where they should play. Tiger Stadium will probably be soaked as previously stated. So let's go down the River where 3 weeks ago, just 5-8" of rain flooded the place due to "sub-standard drainage" and "possible" misuse of funds. So that seems to be our options!

That's 2 options... not the ONLY 2 options.

Isn't Monday labor day? What will Houston look like on Monday? This could also be a way around the Sunday issue for BYU at either Dallas, New Orleans or even Baton Rouge.

You can't just immediately declare the game played and POOF problem solved. There are a lot of different conversations that have to happen. Good thing is they're actively working on it. Relax.

Try to follow me. It is not just Alleva's decision. What lesson did he have to LEARN? LSU offered anything they could to get the Florida game player on the weekend it was scheduled.

I wouldn't plan on playing that game in NOLA either. Would you trust a relocated game in the hands of Landrieu after he proved his administration couldn't handle a thunderstorm just a few days ago?

SMG manages the Superdome and NRG Stadium in Houston and says The Dome is ready to go for next Saturday's game! Seems like the logical choice as long as ESPN doesn't wreck everything!

Based on that forcast map New Orleans is getting 4-6in of rain. It will also be flooded.
