LSU linebacker Damone Clark sent out the following farewell message to Tiger Nation on Wednesday.

Clark did not specify his plans for the Texas Bowl, but it's likely that he will skip the game to begin preparation for the NFL Draft.

The Butkus Award finalist and Baton Rouge native graduated from LSU this past weekend.

The man stuck it out through a tough senior season that a lot of others bailed out on. Screw a meaningless 6-6 bowl game. Much respect and good luck to him in future. Geaux Tigers.

THIS! Also glad he was a part of the 2019 NC team. A true TIGER to his core.

“ The man stuck it out through a tough senior season”. Actually he didn’t. He just left his teammates high and dry.

I don’t blame him…good luck Damone. I’m old enough to remember when it would be laughable for a 6-6 team to be in a bowl game anyway.

One of the fastest turnarounds for an athlete in consecutive seasons that I’ve ever seen... the dude became a force this year. Best of luck to him

In the not-to-distant future, bowl games will become essentially a junior varsity showcase. The best of your freshman/sophomores vs the best of their fr/so. A sign of the times...

I’m 100% fine if he opts out. He won’t be on the team next year and that’ll give some other guys more practice and game time. He also made himself a lot of money this season and I wouldn’t want him to get hurt prior to the draft.

I wish LSU would go the route of A&M and forgo bowl game. Their issues are with numbers and Covid. Actually all bowls need to shut it down with NIL, transfers and opt-outs so prevalent. It is no longer the same because universities have become Minor Leagues for the Pros.

You guys trip over meaningless a exhibition game. He has given his all to LSU. He completed his career and graduated. Wanting any more from him is pure selfishness. But, some of you are pure selfish, so...

Where would he be without the fans? Where would LSU football be without the fans? Where would college football be without the fans? He is the selfish one. LSU fans gave him the oportunity to get to the next level and this is how he repays the fans by looking out for himself.

To be fair all games are really "meaningless" then.

He took a lot of criticism here but kept his head up and responded to his poor play. He probably needs a break but if a guy truly loves to put on the pads and play ball he shows up for games he can play. It’s a lot of potential money if he makes it and he doesn’t want to get hurt but an injury can happen anytime. Go play football

I was one of his biggest critics at the beginning of the year and one of his biggest fans at the end. Hope it translates into a great pro career. Truly a hard worker and obviously incredible mental strength considering everything that happened this year. I was wrong about him and no qualms stating that. Love it when players prove me wrong.

Damone Clark was the heart and soul of the LSU defense this very challenging year and I wish him nothing but success in his future NFL career. A true Tiger!!!!

No Damone Clark averaging 10 plus tackles per game and what would our record have been. The guy is a winner who sacrificed for LSU, Louisiana and our fans. Losers don’t appreciate anything, let alone his hardwork, sacrifice and preparation for his future professional career.

No hard feelings. I wish him the best. The only caveat I would have about players opting out of bowls is if LSU were in the title game. Which in those cases who opts out of title games anyway. Best wishes to this guy though. He’s gonna succeed at the next level.

MagicMike…kinda ironic that these kids you are criticizing for their decision likely have played and will play organized sports longer than you ever did.
