Good luck to the young man and I pray his family becomes healthy again. Family always comes first, and if his family has been hit hard by COVID-19 then he should by all means take care of himself and his family and do what's in his best interests.

This comment section is depressing to read. So many assholes in here. Neil, if you or your family reads this, please know there are much better humans than these cheering for you and your family to get through this as healthy as possible.

What do you think the chances are that a 21 yr. old athlete contracts COVID-19 and dies? I'll give you a hint, his chances of dying from the flu are at least 5 times greater!

@Jeff Do you realize that it isn't just about the player himself? Obviously you don't. You are dumb!

I mean, they play through every flu season. We've had players out over the years with illness. Did the whole team get their flu shots?

@Jeff As if he couldn't pass it on to someone within his circle who is in a high risk category. LOL

What’s with all the hate for an LSU player? Y’all don’t know what’s going on in this dude’s life. Grow up

Lol @dgnx6 you have 1 thing in common with this guy—you’re both living in the same time frame. That doesn’t mean you know what’s going on in his life.

His choice. That's what America is about.

My gut instinct was to call him a pansy, but then I read “his family was hit hard.” Reminded me that although it is rare, there are rare cases where some pretty awful things are happening to families due to this stuff. Understandable if he is apart of one of those families.

So his family was hit hard when he wasn't playing football? So how is not playing football going to change that?

The odd thing is that he's doing it for his family. But he could make millions in less than 1 year for his family if he plays. I respect it but it's odd.

If they are dead what good would it do? Hmmmm....

His family could get it regardless of what he does.

You either deal with the China virus now or next year. It's not going anywhere. It's part of life now

At most they should allow a redshirt if they haven’t, otherwise you’re gone if you are a senior no matter what.

I respect his decision to do what he thinks is best for him, but these players opting out - either pro or college - unless you're a true stud, I doubt your career recovers. A football career is a short life. They're throwing away a year. How long will it take them to get back to elite level? In Farrell's case, how many others will forever pass him on the depth chart? Like I said, I respect his decision, but the cost will be very hign.

Hey people and other creatures, his family and friends have had a terrible ordeal with Covid-19, here in Mobile. He is clearly high risk, there will never be a full season anyway. He will be with us better than ever for next year when it really will count. We have zero chance of having full season this year.

This may be moot in the end, unfortunately.

It is what it is. Hopefully, he does come back next year. With Brennan a senior and Derek a junior, it’s natty time.

I wish we could just call football games political protest so the China Virus would know not to infect anyone. How do we get that to trend?

Take it for what's it's worth. Rumor is, the season is going to be moved to some version of Spring. I am not stating it as fact, but I have heard that's what is being talked about.

That's been an option and being talked about for months now.
