During FS1's 'Wake Up Barstool, ' Jon Gruden and T-Bob Hebert were both in agreement about Brian Kelly's heated response in his postgame press conference Saturday night.
quote:

"I thought Brian Kelly hit that out of the stadium. I loved it," Gruden said. "I mean, LSU has a whole new offensive line; everyone went to the NFL. They just beat Clemson, at Clemson. The comeback and beat Florida, whose back is against the line. I think he did a hell of a job addressing that. I wish he would have been a little more harsh, personally."
Here's what T-Bob had to say:
quote:

"Look, LSU's offense has problems. There is a time and a place for that question. Brian Kelly is one thousand percent correct. After you beat Florida, with great defense, five picks, Tiger Stadium at night, SEC win... You don't open the presser asking about the offense. It's crazy. I love that he said 'spoiled.' 'You're spoiled!"

The fact is Kelly understands they have a problem. But that was not the time for the first question to be about that after a big win where you had 5 pics. That is a very talented defense. There are NFL Players on the defensive front just like at Clemson. We have all new Oline and many new receivers. It will take a little time to gel not to mention Moore was playing with an injured ankle and it showed. Kelly could have handled it better but the truth is it really isn't that big a deal. Saban was just as harsh with the press.

I don't disagree, but I think the issue is that it's not clear at all that Kelly *believes* we have a problem with the offense, at least not a big problem. His comments seem to be in the "they're not the spectacular show they were with Burrow or JD5 but they're good enough to win with this defense" ballpark. And while they DON'T need to be spectacular, they clearly ARE struggling and have been for more than a year now.

Yes, defense wins championships, but you have to have at least an average offense to go along with it. We've been there and done that and have the t-shirt (cough...2003...cough).

And yeah, we're a bit spoiled from 2019 and 2023. I get why he was frustrated with that being the *first* question out of the gate. But surely expects the question to be asked and should be prepared for it.

If you think Kelly doesn't know there is an issue with offense then you're a fool.

That's a mid week presser question. Not immediately after the game when you're still coming down from it.

This should not have been the first question. This should have been a question that was segued into the conversation. First question should have been about how well defense played. Losing Whit and still have that performance. Then ask about how come the offense was not able to control the LOS and what would be done going forward.

Advocate writers had LSU winning by 7-10 points and none had LSU scoring over 27 which LSU was in position to do at end of game

Right, 100%, but this fanbase is filled with spoiled bitches that will hate the response because they are mad at the offense. It didn't matter what he said because they would have been giving him shite for it anyway.

Well then don't blow smoke up our arse like we're the ladies from the garden club all summer, telling us our offense is gonna take the top off of defenses...basically...get your popcorn ready.

Can one person acknowledge how cool it is for T-Bob to be discussing this on national television with Jon Gruden?? Super cool for my guy!

I haven't watched the presser but the TV sideline reporter asked about the offense and his blood pressure went up a bit during the answer. So the fact he got asked a similar question maybe independent of each other probably set him off.

Kelly knows we have issues but what is he supposed to do, shite on his kids that just got a win against an SEC opponent and a bitter rival? The game is always close no matter how good or bad the teams are and the defense was the winner today but there will be games when the offense has to be the one that steps up. We have a completely new OL that is going to take a few games to gel and new guys at the skill spots. Sloan is absolutely not helping with his play calling though. He’s such a damn good recruiter that he deserves the OC job title but he needs help from someone. Where’s coach Ensminger when you need him? All jokes aside, Sloan really could use some help whether it comes from an analyst or BK himself but the players have to play better and execute better, particularly in the run game. Nuss and all our talent at WE and TE is just too damn good to not eventually be better.

It was a fair question, albeit there is rightful disagreement about the timing. However, there is also rightful skepticism as to whether the offense will improve as BK expects. LSU has not had a run game outside of JD5 since BK has been the HC. Also, some people are traumatized with how bad the defense has been under BK and in year 4 it's just now getting corrected. Basically, not everyone simply takes BK at his word. In hindsight, the question was even more correct because there was an injury to GN torso that was being somewhat concealed. Again, we may disagree on the timing of the question but it certainly was valid. LSU has struggled to consistently create a running game from its RB's since BK has been here. This year has been no different and it's a glaring weakness.

I think it’s a fair question and maybe should have been packaged differently but coming off a performance like that against a UF team that isn’t the UF teams of old in your own damn stadium with 5 turnovers caused by your defense and only 13 points put on the board by your offense with the Heisman favorite at QB and talent all over the field, that question has to be asked and I don’t give a frick if Kelly thinks I’m spoiled.

In no world is the performance turned in by that offense acceptable from the playcalling to the execution of the run game to the ability to block the pass. You get paid $10MM a year and a lot of these kids are getting paid, too. Gone is the “these are just amateur kids” argument. The offense’s putrid performance should have been addressed by the media and the question should have been asked right away and BK looked defensive and annoyed by the question rather than frustrated by his team’s execution.

I’m glad he’s defending his guys but something is rotten in Denmark on offense and they need to figure it out or they’re gonna lose too many games to be in the playoffs, let alone win the SEC or the National Championship.

His first three rapid fire questions were…. What’s wrong with the offense? What about third downs? What’s wrong with the running game. Right off the bat. There’s 27 other things he could have led off with besides that. He knows better. You lead into that after a big win. If that’s your only questions, let others go first and then bombard him. Cauble knew what he was doing.

Problem here is, BK is REALLY not gonna want to hear it after the offense costs him a game.

BK made it a point after LA Tech about how bad the offense performed and that they need to do better. One week later, no improvement shown, and he flips out about being questioned on something he said needed to be addressed? Gtfo

It seems, "This was a big win and our focus is celebrating this win. We recognize the offensive struggles and will get back to work. For now, we are happy with this win and so should you all. Next question." Would have done the trick...instead he looked like a little baby back bitch!

Take the opposite side of what T-Bob is arguing and you'll be right 100% of the time.

Kelly completely mishandled the entire situation. The run game and offense as a whole was complete arse. I can honestly somewhat live with that. But to tell at us and the media acting like there's not an issue, is criminally insane.

He thought he was mad Saturday? Wait til you allow Sloan to continue to be arse cost you games. The media will eat your sensitive arse's lunch.

Totally disagree with T-Bob and Meyer’s. The reporter was doing his job and asking the obvious question. Reporter should have hit back with: your getting paid $10M for doing your job, act professional and do it, I’m just doing my job.
