The 12-team playoff is coming one year too late, but here's what it would look like, using the final college football playoff rankings that came out on Sunday.

No. 12. Oklahoma (10-2) and No. 13. LSU (9-3) would be the first two teams left out of the playoff.
quote:

Format rules:
*6 auto bids to highest ranked conference champs
*6 at-large bids to next highest ranked teams
*top 4 champs get byes
*5-8 seeds host on-campus 1st round games

FSU is 4 if they don’t have to bump them to get Bama in.

And if this was 2024...Only FSU and Liberty would not be an SEC or BIG10 team.

So with the P5 becoming the P4, will you have two G6 teams getting autobids?

That’s the million dollar question. Needs to be revised given the conference re-alignment that happened after the format was developed

By the committee's "logic" FSU should be the 9 seed

So basically teams can lose 2 games instead of 1. That’s pretty fair imo.

a 3 loss team will make the playoff every few years. This year is unusual with a high number of undefeated and 1 loss teams.

it should be the fricking top 12 teams make the playoffs no matter what conference they are from. Enough of this stupid fricking format bullshite (6 must be from here, 6 must be from there) frick all that stupid TV bullshite

Should be conference champions . So that big time out of conference games continue. Why should LSU play FSU or southern cal if it cost them a chance at the natty. Would be better off playing McNeese

LSU would beat the breaks out of Penn State.

All these undefeated and 1 loss teams won't happen again for a while. This is extremely rare and we also rarely saw an upset this season, again, extremely rare. 9-3 teams will make it just about every year.

It’s gonna be Bama v Texas rematch with Bama winning it all (unfortunately) & Saban riding off into the Miami Sunset. Texas basically gets a bye week, PAC-12 is soft!

Liberty & Missouri, what a joke! LSU dominated Missouri on the road!

1-4 seeds need the home game…..not the first rounders.

That’s so dumb.

Go undefeated all year just to have to earn a bowl location.

Bro, their reward for being in tue top 4 is a bye week.

LSU and Oklahoma make better tv. They can always use the competitiveness argument now that a precedent has been set.

16 teams. I can't think of any other sport who puts such a small percentage of their teams in a playoff

Isn't the PAC 12 going away? If so, does that mean we get SEC, BIG 10, BIG 12 and ACC champs then two other conference champions like Liberty and SMU in final 12? If so, we'll have two garbage games to look forward to.

How can anyone with a functioning brain think the committee would have left FSU at 5 in a 12 team format? I just can't comprehend the stupidity of most of the expansion supporters.

They went undefeated and LSU lost 3. It’s pretty easy.

Top non power 5 school. Read the rules of the format

Dumb that they’re forcing teams like Liberty into this. Literally bid stealers for a power 5 school that could actually win it.

Yeah, what happens when the conference champions of the garbage leagues are like 8-4?
