Greg Sankey spoke at the SEC Commissioners Luncheon Thursday in Greenville, S.C., and said that the conference is looking to move away from two divisions and is leaning towards no divisions instead of a four-team pod system.

Sankey previously suggested this was a plan with Texas and Oklahoma joining the conference.

They will probably go to 9 conference games with 3 permanent opponents and rotate 6 of the 12 other opponents every 2 years. That way you play everyone at least twice every 4 years. Much better balance than we have today. As far as LSU, our permanent opponents would have to be Ole Miss and Texas AM plus either Arkansas, Alabama, or MSU. Alabama would have to have Auburn, Tennessee, plus one more team, maybe LSU.

You have to eliminate the conference game. It eliminates an SEC team from being in the final 4 more times than not.

This is just to satisfy the 3-4 teams at the top. This will make most of the games in the back end of the season irrelevent and reduce interest. The bottom 12 teams will be out of contention by end of October...

Let's see - instead of eliminating divisions let's form a new conference called SEC Lite with A&M, Missouri, Vandy, Florida State, Tulane, South Carolina. Sell Texas & Oak to the Big 10 or anyone else willing to take them.

Skanky "Now that LSU has Brian Kelly it looks like they will win the west every year. No sense in even having divisions"

I would like our 4 every-year match-ups to be: Bama, Florida, Auburn & A&M.

Texas, Ok, A&M and Missouri can go to the PAC 12. They don’t add anything to football anyway.

Gay. Gregg Sankey is a greedy freaking yank who could care less about the actual game.

NOT. He could NOT care less. Why is this difficult?

Twelve teams worked pretty well for the SEC. Fourteen has stretched it with scheduling and teams can go for six years or more without playing each other. Expanding to sixteen teams was done purely out of greed and provides no competitive benefit for the members. I'm just about to the point I'd like to see a return to ten teams. The newest six members could start their own conference.

I think 12 was the right number. Arkansas and South Carolina we’re good
geographical and cultural fits.

Texas and Oklahoma aren’t.

I’m with you on that. I don’t like A&M and Missouri in the conference. Hell I still haven’t accepted Arkansas and South Carolina. Ten teams would suit me fine.

why? Is this to avoid an division championship game ahead of a conference championship game?

I hate that were going to lose the Florida game annually.

With a 12 team playoff, Sankey is just trying to delay the inevitable of 4 SEC teams in the Final 4. He better move quick.

I do like the pods, but I think that if the playoff is expanding, there needs to be one less SEC conference game per season.
