ESPN analyst and former Alabama quarterback Greg McElroy appeared on ‘College Football Live’ this week and explained how the expectations for Myles Brennan are 'unreasonable' as he tries to replace Heisman quarterback Joe Burrow. Per 247 Sports:
quote:

“I think that these expectations need to be cut in half,” McElroy said of Brennan. “They’re unreasonable, just given all the pieces that they have to replace, and they’re playing a 10-game conference gauntlet in the SEC … I still expect them to be really good and really talented. I actually really really like Myles Brennan, and I think he’ll fill in Joe Burrow’s big shoes. I think he’ll fill them admirably. This issue is, I think the continuity between coordinator and coach won’t be what it was last year. I don’t know how it possibly could be.
McElroy also thinks the Tigers will miss former defensive coordinator Dave Aranda this year...
quote:

“They are really going to miss Dave Aranda on the defensive side of the football. Bo Pelini is there, an experienced guy that has been there in the past and built some great defenses, but knowing that every team in the SEC West has likely improved, it might be a lot tougher for LSU to maintain that same level of dominance, I think, both on offense and defense.”

McElroy tries way too hard to be unbiased. I don't know how you Bama baws tolerate him.

It's those last two sentences in the second statement that I disagree with. It come off as if he's saying that, the other teams in SEC West got better, except LSU.

Well considering they lost 14 Starters to the NFL Draft & UDFAs, including the GOAT QB, O & D Coordinators few other asst coaches too & another handful to Sitting out or transfer off of the Best LSU FB Team of ALL-TIME! So it’s probably safe to say that LSUs Team this year isn’t going to be BETTER than last years team! But maybe that’s just me??

Guess what. All the other teams have to play the SEC 10 game gauntlet as well.

He obviously doesn’t know the fan bases expectations. No one is saying he will be close to Burrow but believing 30-40 TD’s is possible, isn’t crazy. You add about the same total TD’s from our RBs, a couple on STs and around 5+ on defense would be a great year considering that our defense will be more aggressive and improve overall. The games that could go either way imo are Bama, Auburn and Florida. The remaining games are very winnable. This season will be so different from any other so I believe talent will prevail this season. I’m really not sure that anyone has more talent than LSU. We will have to see.

I’d be okay with half of the production. 30 TDs in 10 games works for me.

If anyone understands lowering expectations, it’s Greg McElroy

And the winner of the 2020 Heisman Trophy is........ Myles Brennan, LSU.

People are sleeping on Brennan! And that a plus for LSU. No one expected Burrow to produce the year he had! And people forget that Burrow and Brennan were neck and neck for the starting QB spot with Burrow winning out because of experience! Not talent! I dont think Brennan will have the same numbers as Burrow (no one has!), but I do believe Brennan will be the best QB in the SEC and it won't be close!

I think most reasonable Tiger fans know MB won't be Burrow this season. But he can still be really solid and set up for a huge 2021. The Aranda thing is wrong, IMO

McElroy comments about Brennan are fair but he is just guessing. He is flat wrong about Aranda. Based on the comments coming from Coach O the past couple of months this D will be much improved from last year.

I get what he's saying about Brennan, but he'll be better than he expects. As for Aranda, bwahahahahaha. We are WAY better off with Pelini.

I am 100% positive the reason why the defense was great toward the end of the season and not through Ole Miss had zero to do with Aranda or his brainiac schemes. It was due to the shear will and determination of the players who got tired of hearing the noise. Exotic schemes that never send blitzes and press coverage on 3 and 15s will not be missed.

When vandy and ole miss score a lot yet they showed up when it matters def tells me its an motivational thing.

You guys sure know how to shite on people once they are gone from here. It's actually kind of childish. When Aranda was here he couldn't be paid enough to be convinced to stay and many were wanting him to be coach in waiting because of how damn good he was.
