ESPN's Greg McElroy and Matt Barrie previewed Saturday's game between Ole Miss and LSU during the latest "Always College Football" podcast episode.

According Barrie, he see's the matchup as the first College Football Playoff elimination game of the season. Per SDS:
quote:

“I still stand by that (statement). There’s enough football to play your way back into it. But there’s also enough football to where you run out of turns,” said Barrie. “LSU’s loss to USC doesn’t look good anymore … They do have the games on their schedule to get back in it. But this stage of the game, with all these other teams out there, you don’t want to be the first 2-loss team, and the loser of this game is.

“Basically, you just don’t want to be the first big-time school with 2 losses. Because that’s going to come get you in November.”
Skip to the 19:40 mark in the video below to see them discuss the game.

Isn't it usually better to lose early than lose toward the end of the year? Voters usually put more weight on more recent results.

Both these teams are already eliminated.

He is 100% right! Because LSU had no business losing to USC. LSU should only have 2 losses to an SEC opponent. The loser of this game, will no doubt get a 3rd loss. Which would then put a 3 loss team out of the play offs.

Hell, as of now Alabama could lose again and still make the playoffs. If they lose they will be ranked 16th at the worst right now.

Clickbait; nobody is out of it this early with only 2 losses in the SEC or big10

So, is he saying that 2 Loss Michigan is not "out of it"?

If we cannot beat ole miss at home, under the lights, we do not deserve to be in it anyhow.

Big 12 champ will be the 4 seed and whoever that ends up being, they wouldn’t beat Ole Miss.

bullshite. If LSU loses, they still would only have 1 conference loss and would be very much alive to make the SEC title game. But even if they didn’t, they’d still probably be in the playoff at 10-2 with late season wins over Bama and OU. If Ole Miss loses, their SEC hopes are probably over but finishing 10-2 with wins over OU and UGA down the stretch would probably get them in too

Negative! If LSU loses, they will definitely drop a third game on the road. Arkansas, or
Texas A&M.

Unless I’m mistaken, there is no longer an SEC title game.

There’s still an SEC title game.

Article is trash...LSU can still make the SECCG with one conference loss...won't be easy but possible with some luck.

The loser will still have a chance to get in the playoff, but it will take some luck and it’ll be a razor thin margin.
If one of these teams gets in with two loses, it means they will have beaten some good teams after this weekend.

bullshite. When it was a beauty contest among one-loss teams, the one-loss team with the most recent loss was usually suffered. If two-loss teams are getting in, I want my second loss to be as old as possible. #gettinghot #peakingattherighttime #readytomakeaplayoffrun

Yeah but the reality is, if we lose to Ole Miss in Tiger Stadium, we ain't running the table. @Arky and @A&M in consecutive weeks is not free W's. Bama is still a good team and so is Vandy, who we also have to play.

Perfectly stated.

If you have to have two losses, you want to be the first 2 loss team. That will give you time to work your way back up. The pollsters are generally lazy. They just look at things on a week to week basis. If you win you generally move up. If you lose, you go down…even if two teams have the same amount of losses.

Further, It’s only at the end of the season that the “entire body of work” is evaluated. If that is the case you can argue that when you suffered the second loss is largely irrelevant.
