Former LSU cornerback and current Carolina Panthers rookie Donte Jackson is catching some heat after leaving a $5 tip on $120 bill at a New Orleans restaurant.

Jackson, who recently signed a 4-year, $4.8 million deal, also made a smiley face out of the $5.00 on the receipt which was tweeted out by the waitress.

Jackson responded by tweeting back "You got 5 more dollars then you had be grateful." He quickly deleted that tweet.

As you could imagine, everyone, including a Panthers website, went after Jackson and also dug up this tweet of his from July.

Say what yall want but Donte was very nice and signed my son's LSU hat the other day and was happy to do it along with other LSU Tigers. If she wants to get paid more get a better job.

Great, he signed your sons hat. Doesn't mean he's not a cheap frick.

Maybe the service was shitty, at least I hope it was. This attention seeking bullshite from waiters tweeting out receipts has got to go. Everyone is just looking for a payday. This shite could have been done privately before he even left the restaurant.

How exactly is this looking for a payday? It's not like it was illegal or anything

Waiters do this often to try and either get the person to pay up or somehow seek support from those on the internet. Either way it’s not for anything other than their own personal gain.

The smiley face was the most assholeish part. To me that shows he probably knew it was a shite tip

The real issue, is these a-hole servers who think these checks are theirs to show off. This is between the customer and the business. So dude is a cheap skate, so what. It is his choice. I tip very good, because i would hit customers with chairs for the way they act, but this doesn't excuse these servers showing off tips.

I wasnt there to witness the service...therefore, I can't give an opinion on how much Jackson should've tipped.

Why is tipping so confusing for these younger generations of kids? It’s a pretty simple concept.
user avatar
Mike da Tigah70 months
I guess it should be no big surprise that these younger people struggle so much with tipping. They struggle in where to put laundry detergent, and how to drive a damn stick shift as well. Basic shite just wears them out.

First to shame may not always be right. That is the problem with these social lynchings - we never heard his side of the story before he is labeled a "cheapskate". He may or may not have had a good reason for this awful tip. We just don't know and it is getting tiring getting only one side of the story as "news".

Side story? If you can afford $125 meal, you can leave a proper tip. End of story. His smart arse rebuttal tells us exactly how he felt.

Did you see the part where he had the chance to make his case for poor service but didn’t?

I don't care if you're a millionaire or not. If you can't tip at least 10% of you're bill then then get it to go or cook you're own dinner. All those comments about get a better job? Well someone has to do it and everyone knows well enough that servers don't even make minimum wage because tips IS their wages for the most part. Bad on Donte for a 4% tip! That's just flat out disrespectful.

Get a better job, seriously though lots of good jobs out there. Leave that restaurant shite to HS kids.

what kind of places are you eating where only high school kids are the servers? Sounds terrible.

This is unnecessary but what I can't stand these days is that every single restaurant has a tip on the receipt. If I'm picking the food up myself, I shouldn't have to tip. If it's fast food I'll never tip unless I just feel like it. Prices are insane as it is these days and now you want me to add 15 or 20% to the price? Yes if I'm at a restaurant and I'm served with good food and even decent service I will most certainly tip. If the food isn't worth the price or the service is bad I will not tip much if anything.

Don’t punish the server for the food quality or price.
user avatar
Tiger Live270 months
Exactly, can't hold food quality, or price against the server. Also, while not 15-20%, you should tip a little, on take out orders from restaurants.

What did he eat? Only because two shots of Pappy at $50 a shot and a hamburger doesn't deserve a $25 tip.
