Former LSU cornerback and current Carolina Panthers rookie Donte Jackson is catching some heat after leaving a $5 tip on $120 bill at a New Orleans restaurant.

Jackson, who recently signed a 4-year, $4.8 million deal, also made a smiley face out of the $5.00 on the receipt which was tweeted out by the waitress.

Jackson responded by tweeting back "You got 5 more dollars then you had be grateful." He quickly deleted that tweet.

As you could imagine, everyone, including a Panthers website, went after Jackson and also dug up this tweet of his from July.

The smiley face was the most assholeish part. To me that shows he probably knew it was a shite tip

Poor tippers are the dregs of society. Especially those that boast about it, like bad tipping is an inherent gift. Nah, it's just you being an a-hole. The way you treat people that deliver a service to you says a lot about your character.

"Poor tippers are the dregs of society." No, the dregs of society are restaurant owners who do not pay a decent wage to their employees and expect the customer to pay the wage through a guilt trip based on "service". Either the restaurant owner pays a wage and hires people that perform or they should close their business. (I am not addressing the NFL player's notation on the receipt.) Tips have gotten way out of hand, more of an expectation now than earning a reward.

@Dr. Eco---They cant afford to. If they did, they would have to raise the prices of the food and people would be complaining, less patrons to his establishment, etc. Econ 101

This is unnecessary but what I can't stand these days is that every single restaurant has a tip on the receipt. If I'm picking the food up myself, I shouldn't have to tip. If it's fast food I'll never tip unless I just feel like it. Prices are insane as it is these days and now you want me to add 15 or 20% to the price? Yes if I'm at a restaurant and I'm served with good food and even decent service I will most certainly tip. If the food isn't worth the price or the service is bad I will not tip much if anything.

Don’t punish the server for the food quality or price.

Exactly, can't hold food quality, or price against the server. Also, while not 15-20%, you should tip a little, on take out orders from restaurants.

I don't care if you're a millionaire or not. If you can't tip at least 10% of you're bill then then get it to go or cook you're own dinner. All those comments about get a better job? Well someone has to do it and everyone knows well enough that servers don't even make minimum wage because tips IS their wages for the most part. Bad on Donte for a 4% tip! That's just flat out disrespectful.

Get a better job, seriously though lots of good jobs out there. Leave that restaurant shite to HS kids.

Almost a certainty he’ll eat a dick burger this year. There will be some server out there who recognizes him for the cheap tipper and they’ll stick the dipper down and serve him with a smile Karma

First of all Donte Jackson is not the first cheap millionaire athlete when it comes to tipping and he won't be the last. For a few years I worked for Harrah's Casino New Orleans and there was a lot of those very rich athlete's coming through and majority of them was CHEAP! They drink for free drop $100,000 on the tables especially the high roller tables and when it was the millionaire athletes at the tables the waitresses hated working them because they're drinking top shelf liquor and the servers are giving top shelf service and they're actually getting stiffed. And believe it or not the NBA players are the worst and really the player that I worshiped and admired and loved the most who was the baddest cat to ever lace up a basketball shoe was one of the cheapest of them all the G.O.A.T. Michael Jordan. And it's not just the NBA players but NFL, MLB, PGA, MLS all of them not all the players but a decent amount of them were cheap. I know because I was a bartender in NOLA's French Quarter and CDB and I served athletes from every major sport some were great tippers and some were horrible but the same goes for very famous actors and actresses some were great tippers and some were horrible. All I'm saying is we can't judge D.Jack because of the way he tip but judge him on what he does in his hometown community or the Carolina community if he does nothing to better either community then judge him harshly. And for all the folks asking for the server to be fired for posting the receipt (which is really an invasion of privacy and a fireable offense hell a lot of restaurants fire you for asking for an autograph) is not the person who posted it if you look at the top of the receipt the cashier name is the name on the Twitter account unless the server and the cashier is the same. Like that old saying goes 2 wrongs don't make a right and believe me being a 20 year veteran of the serving industry in NOLA both were wrong and this is from someone who smallest tip was 0 and the largest was $3500.00 the thing is in this industry you take the highs and lows of the business. And for the folks on this site telling people to get another job and leave to the HS kids (fast food industry are for HS kids), hell this industry bought my house and two other properties and set me up with a nice bank account. Now I'm not bragging just showing that working in the NOLA serving industry is a very profitable if you work in the right places and manage your money. This was just my 2 cents on the matter.

If you can't leave a tip eat fast food or fix it yourself but don't expect the waitstaff to wait on you hand and foot then leave them nothing. That's shameful and embarrassing.

Why is tipping so confusing for these younger generations of kids? It’s a pretty simple concept.
user avatar

I guess it should be no big surprise that these younger people struggle so much with tipping. They struggle in where to put laundry detergent, and how to drive a damn stick shift as well. Basic shite just wears them out.
