Head coach Ed Orgeron was reminded Monday of LSU's offensive struggles vs. Alabama over the past six years and was essentially asked if he hired offensive coordinator Matt Canada to beat the Crimson Tide.

Here was the full question followed by Orgeron's response.
quote:

QUESTION: In the last six meetings, LSU has scored 17 points in these games. Shut out last year. How do you remedy that? Was Matt Canada brought in to win this game?

ED ORGERON: One of the reasons I hired Matt because all the shifts and formations and stuff that I would think would give Alabama problems. I think he's done a tremendous job for us this year. Obviously, he spent all week last week on his game plan. Obviously, when he watches the film, he sees what he can do and what he can't do.

But it all starts with blocking those guys up front. I mean, you can have the best play called in the world, but if you can't block those guys up front, it's not going to work.

I think protection is going to be key for us. Be able to run the ball in spots, be able to throw the ball and move the ball. Obviously, scoring points against these guys is very tough.

I think he's going to do a very good job of managing the game and taking shots when he can.

Here's a little-known fact- EVERYTHING Coach O does is geared toward beating Bama...so we can sing the answer, can't we: "Hired to beat Bam-maaaaaaa The Bin-der tells me soooooo"

Protection is always the key to the win football in general, the game is won and lost at the line of scrimmage, our boys are going to have to play mean and passionate with great communication with the men next to them, etling NEEDS TO POINT THINGS OUT to support them

O is already giving himself an out by talking about the blockers. Such a sorry coach. Blame the kids when they lose, take the credit when they win.

I remember when Tubberville used a shifting O to keep LSU from getting set on D before the snap when Saban was here. It worked.

17 points in the last 6 meetings? WOW

17 is most we've scored in any of the games, not 17 total. Question is worded funny.

I was wondering that myself. Was thinking no way that's possible, even with the shut out last year. Thanks for clearing it up.

Everybody was hired to beat Alabama. If the program reaches a level where it consistently beats Alabama, the rest should be a win too. If you want to be the man, you have to beat the man.

"Obviously, he spent all week last week on his game plan." Canada should have spent all his time since he was hired to prepare for the bama game plan.

"Matt Canada was hired to help LSU be in a better position to win every game." That's all O needed to say.

I would hope no head coach would hire a coordinator to win 1 game a year.

What if it’s the Championship game?

As soon as he masters beating Troy, he will be ready for Bama.

Giving Mr. Down da Bayou a little to much credit.

Kind of like giving you "too" much credit for your writing skills.

If he hired him to beat Bama, why on this green earth did Orgeron meddle with the offense against Troy?

I would love to know that as well.
