Baylor head coach Dave Aranda could be a possible candidate to replace Ed Orgeron in Baton Rouge next year but the former LSU defensive coordinator could also be a target for the USC job, according to Bruce Feldman.

Aranda, a native of Southern California, was the defensive coordinator at LSU from 2016-2019 and was making $2.5 million a year in his final contract. He left Baton Rouge after the 2019 championship season to become the head coach at Baylor, replacing Matt Rhule who took the Carolina Panthers job.

Aranda went just 2-7 in his first season at Baylor last year but has guided the Bears to a No. 11 ranking in the AP Top 25 with an 8-2 overall record this season.

Do you think Aranda would come back to LSU or head out West? Or is he staying put at Baylor?

LSU puts him a far better situation talent-wise, competition-wise, and the benefits of recruiting the state of louisiana

But will not have the immense pressure of winning 10-11 games in the SEC…

Well if hes afraid of the pressure of winning in the SEC, he doesn't need to be a coach here anyway.

If USC could go back to keeping the Southern California kids at home with a half decent coach, USC is back on top in a year or two a la Pete. So cal takes a back seat to no one talent wise.

I really hope we get him.

If USC is looking at him then it means LSU is not.

USC puts players in a far better situation to cash in on NIL. Big money donors, 2nd largest media market in the country, USC gets a winning team and the players get great exposure, and boatloads of social media followers. Hot stars come to USC, beautiful women on campus, great weather, 5 star players will flock to USC with Aranda there, make bank and the university returns to its position as a top 5 program. I mean, let's be real. I am LSU all the way, but let's not stick our head in the sand and pretend that Baton Rouge is Southern Cal with beaches, babes and basically unlimited money sponsors. NIL is going to influence these kinds of decision by players, and the smart coaches will recognize that. And as TwoDatBait alluded to, the SEC is a meat-grinder league. Aranda could own the PAC12 like Saban owns the SEC.

CanebreakCajun - USC has consistently been top 10 in recruiting classes since 2006 with beating LSU in ranking half the time.

Should stay where he's at. USC has been in shambles since Pete Carroll fled the country to avoid NCAA sanctions against him. Whoever is the coach isn't going to fix that before being fired in three years. Aranda needs a couple of more years of success to be considered a high profile head coach.

Waco is a place to stop and take a piss while driving between Dallas and Austin. Nothing more.

Would be pissed if USC got him, but hey, if home is calling, I understand...

Rumor has it that DA makes $4mil at Baylor. USC likes to pay in the high 4's. Other universities are kicking in 8-10, so if DA waits a year, and has positive results on the field, he can get a fat money job. I say he does one more Baylor year.

Best of luck in Southern California, Coach.

He might feel like anything less than a natty would be a letdown (at LSU). USC only sniffed natty once a good while ago. It is just a guess. Regardless, he was a good coach here and in Waco

If he doesnt go to LSU, id like to see him go out west. Not florida or somewhere dangerous.
