LSU head coach Les Miles confirmed that Danny Etling will start for the Tigers at quarterback this Saturday vs. Mississippi State. Per The Advocate:
quote:

"I think Danny can handle the place and the stage and playing in a televised game in Tiger Stadium," Miles said in the video, taken after the Tigers practiced Thursday night.

"I would say that that is still the case," he said when asked if Etling would start. "You know what? It's hard for me to prematurely ... I just want you to know, Danny will take the first snap, but I hold the right to make that decision any time I want to."

Les Miles and the team has known who the starter is since last week the team knows and that's all that matters. Don't get me wrong I don't like many of miles decisions but he's right here. Only people that have to know is him his coaches and team. I assure you they've known all week. GT

"but I hold the right to make that decision any time I want to." Yes, and that's the problem.

why can't the idiot just say "yes, Etling is our starter against MSU", without all the nonsensical gibberish? It doesn't give MSU any competitive advantage and just eliminates an uncertainty that can't be good for the team.

You don't know what he's told the team

Starting Etling was the right thing to do. I wouldn't have said anything to the media until the pregame. Also, I hate the fact the Les Miles would rather do the wrong thing than give the impression that he's appeasing to the media or the fans. I understand that you can't let the media or fans dictate your decisions. But your first priority is what's best for the team. You can't just "Do the wrong thing" just because the fans or media acknowledged it. What's best for the team should always be the priority. And Les sometimes doesn't do that due to "pride".

Where are you getting tbese quotes of "doing the wrong thing" and "pride" you are alluding to? I feel like you don't know how to use quotes

Right there with ya Mouche. It always seems like there's some Joey Grammar or Ted Semantics out there ready to pounce on a transcoding gasp or misspelled word. This is a football board dingle berry. Take your insults back to the alley you live in.

To think that he would even consider BH is cause for pause. Does he live in some parallel universe?

That he should so deviant, defensive or hostile over it is and in itself a problem. Who the hell ever said he doesn't have the right to make a change at any position? Maybe the TAF is wondering how he can go through a spring a summer and fall practices and not know who either who his best Quarteback is or how he could not make a change in the first game when the offense was doing absolutely nothing.

I mean, I kind of feel where Les is coming from. He really doesn't feel like he should be held accountable to the media, just his football team. He's kind of right.

Being accountable to the team means making the best decisions to help the team be successful. For me, the the "I reserve the right" crap is just another finger to fans and media. Les, you're old and stale. Step down at seasons eland and save some dignity.

I think les should give himself/his agent the right to "search for other opportunities" during the season. So at seasons end he can move on or outright retire. He can maintain his pride that way.

About time he names a starter

Why? Wtf difference does it make if we find out on Monday or at game time? The team knew all week and they're the only ones that needed to know.

@bayou just sounds stupid to have your HC say "no starter but Etling is taking first snaps." But you're correct. The only thing it does is give your starting QB confidence that his coach believes in him enough to name him the starter to the caring world.

It is easier for the team to avoid being distracted all week by questions. Once it is announced no one will be bothering with the "Is Etling starting?" question and they don't have to keep it a secret or pretend that they don't know.
