Corey Raymond is coming home.

Multiple sources are reporting that LSU is finalizing a deal to bring Corey Raymond back to Baton Rouge as Brian Kelly's defensive back coach.

Raymond returns to the Tigers after spending two seasons as Florida's defensive back coach.

The New Iberia native played cornerback at LSU from 1987 to 1991 and was the Tigers' defensive back coach from 2012 to 2022. He was also LSU's recruiting coordinator from 2020 to 2022.

He re-joins LSU's defensive staff under new defensive coordinator Blake Baker and will be an integral piece in fixing issues in the secondary.

if he were truly wise he wouldn't have let these guys walk or ran them offI do applaud him for realizing Coach Miles/Coach O did have some great guys on staff and are bringing them back

He had better learn to be more humble and quit acting like a child every year threating if he don't get a raise. His past record doesnt mean anything now. He has to be ready to work and produce. I am very sure Kelly made that very clear to him.

Look the man can recruit and he can coach. We had him at LSU during some of the best secondary performances DBU is known for. To say he isn’t a good coach is just wrong. Did he get comfortable and maybe want more than we were willing to offer him at the time? That could be true. I don’t even count the Florida stint. That place is completely different than LSU and he probably knew it right away. He may not be the long term hire but I think we can get another 3-4 years from him. We should have a championship run or two by then and all will be happy once we playing solid Defense again, which means a championship run or two. Now let’s get to work and get the best players to LSU with this group and go take our spot back!

Yeah…just like Bo Pellini’s D was stifling in 2007. Bringing him back in 2020 really brought that magic back, didn’t it?

Hope he realizes this is basically a last chance to prove his last few years at LSU and then UF were not how he wants his career to be defined. Time to step up Mr. Raymond .

My only question is why was he fired by Florida, if he’s that good?

His last 2 years here were under Coach O and Covid. And like coolieaux said, UF was just flaming garbage in every way. Him being home in such a well run program should make him much more effective.

Well said, sometimes Bosses are actually good at guiding their subordinates and making sure they are on point. Some people need that and that’s ok. I think it may take a minute to restock but the best may be yet to come from Raymond now.
He knows what it takes and Kelly knows that’s he knows. Great hire.

This is a big gamble based on his last 4-5years...better hope returning home gets him on the right side of getting and coaching top recruits. Not coming in 2nd place for the top players and not coaching them up.
