CBS Sports writer Barrett Sallee reacted to the AP Top 25 poll which was released this week and has LSU as one of his underrated teams at No. 16. Here's what he had to say:
quote:

Underrated: No. 16 LSU

It seems like the world is skeptical of Tigers coach Ed Orgeron after last year's disaster, but this team is much closer to the 2019 version than it is to the 2020 version. Orgeron told me at SEC Media Days that he recognized the error of his ways and hired a staff that can install the same schemes that helped them win that national title. Max Johnson will be a star, Kayshon Boutte is the best healthy wide receiver in the country, the running back room is stout, four starters return on the offensive line and the 11 players on the defensive side of the ball won't have their heads spinning from ex-coordinator Bo Pelini's over-coaching that took place a year ago. LSU won't be a pushover -- it'll be a national title contender.
The Tigers open up the 2021 season at UCLA on September 4. Kickoff is set for 7:30 pm CT.

If Chase, Marshall, Gilbert and two defensive guys I cannot think of their names cannot opt out due to Covid and Brennan doesn't get hurt we win 9 games, maybe 20. 2020 was just a crazy year

All you have to do is look at how hard Saban comes after the best Louisiana talent to know that he knows that this LSU team is for real. The experts are mostly saying this same thing yet our own fans will still line up with our opposing fan bases and help sabotage our own teams recruiting when they say over and over how our HC is incompetent at his job! It’s the strangest thing I’ve ever seen but then they’ll come complain how he’s not landing top talent at certain positions at the same time. Go fook yourselves! I’ve had the guys back since 2016 and until he proves to me that he can’t get the job done consistently then I’ll continue to fight for the guy as much as I can. He’s done a good job so for and he’s on the cusp of great imo. If Ed O produces another 11-1 or 10–2 season with a big win bowl game then I don’t want to hear anymore crap from the nay sayers! If he produces 9-3 or worse then my mind will start to change. If he does that again then LSU should start to look at coaches again. But if he rebounds then shut up about his abilities to run a program, he’s earned it. 2019 was NOT LSU’s version of Auburn’s one off year! Stop saying that crap! It’s so dumb!

I agree, they should stop saying last year was a runoff. Others should really stop saying this website drives away recruits. To quote you, “it’s so dumb.” You don’t find anything here that you wouldn’t find on any other fan forum. Players aren’t as thin skinned as you think—it’s actually insulting to them that you would think they’re so fragile. And Saban recruits Louisiana hard because it’s a hotbed for HS football talent. Stealing them from LSU is a bonus, but the primary reason is just that they’re good players.

One-off* I should say.

I mean lots of teams have disasters when a new DC is installed and your starting QB goes down in the midst of lighting the scoreboards on fire.

Its the Miss State and Missouri losses that never should have happened. The rest is somewhat understandable after how many starters left for draft in 2019.

So he’s been coaching, going on 40 years, and he has to learn something he should know by now!! Orgeron is no Spring Chicken, he’s much closer to an old rooster with very few tail feathers!!!!!

Barrett Sallee has amongst the worst reputation of all national college football writers. I’m not saying he’s a hack…his track record does that for him. We will have a chance to do great things this year, but it’s not because this fraud says so
