LSU head coach Brian Kelly met with reporters after the Tigers' 37-17 victory over Oklahoma on Saturday night and, during his opening statement, shared a strong message about the program's direction.
Later in his press conference, Kelly was asked by reporter Glenn Guilbeau about his "National Championship" statement and doubled down:

"The standard is the standard," Kelly said. "I didn't come here to go 8-4. I'm not happy about 8-4. Nobody in that locker room is happy about being 8-4. What they are happy is how they responded after a three-game losing streak."
"This game teaches you lessons about grit, toughness, perseverance, and not letting go of the rope. They easily could have fractured, but they stayed together."
"The big picture is that I'm excited about our future regardless of what people think. And everyone is entitled to their own opinions. But nobody knows what it looks like from the inside. I have the best perspective on that. You can write what you want and have your own opinions. I have a better perspective of it. I don't listen to what you have to say. We are going to build it the way we know we are going to build it, and I'll see you (with a smile) in the National Championship game."
