Brian Kelly: "We're Taking Receipts And We Will See You At The National Championship"

LSU head coach Brian Kelly met with reporters after the Tigers' 37-17 victory over Oklahoma on Saturday night and, during his opening statement, shared a strong message about the program's direction.

Later in his press conference, Kelly was asked by reporter Glenn Guilbeau about his "National Championship" statement and doubled down:

"The standard is the standard," Kelly said. "I didn't come here to go 8-4. I'm not happy about 8-4. Nobody in that locker room is happy about being 8-4. What they are happy is how they responded after a three-game losing streak."

"This game teaches you lessons about grit, toughness, perseverance, and not letting go of the rope. They easily could have fractured, but they stayed together."

"The big picture is that I'm excited about our future regardless of what people think. And everyone is entitled to their own opinions. But nobody knows what it looks like from the inside. I have the best perspective on that. You can write what you want and have your own opinions. I have a better perspective of it. I don't listen to what you have to say. We are going to build it the way we know we are going to build it, and I'll see you (with a smile) in the National Championship game."

Everyone on here seems to forget where LSU was when Kelly walked in the door. He had 39 players. Barely enough players to play the bowl game. A freaking WR played QB.
Since then he won the SECW in the first year. He had a Heisman winner in the second year. Injuries gutted us in the middle of this season but we still won 8 games.
It takes time to get your depth up when you start with 39 players. Half that 39 had no business being on the field. In reality half your yearly incoming players never see the field.
All the armchair coaches need to be glad we haven’t had more than one down year out of the 3.

NIL/Portal has greatly expedited the rebuilding process. Absolutely no excuse for him to have regressed in year 3

The old “39 players!” card. It’s no excuse in year 3 with a portal and one of the largest pools of NIL money in the country.

LSU has a nice NIL pool but no where near the largest in the country. Louisiana, frankly, just doesn't have a whole lot of money as a state compared to some of the big boys pumping big dollars.

If he's that confident he will build a Championship team, then he should give up his buyout option in his contract. LSU expects to be in the playoffs not looking in from the house.

He would hire Nick Saban as head coach, Kirby Smart as d-coordinator, and he would bring back Joe Brady as offensive coordinator. He’d convince Burrow to retire from the NFL to come be the quarterbacks coach, and he would put Ed Orgeron as d-Line coach. He would hire Moffit away from A&M as S&C coach. He would keep Corey Raymond as DBs position coach. As Athletic Director he would get it all done, and if coach would have put him in, they would have won state.

This coach is all talk and excuses, leaving nothing to show for over 21 seasons except a paycheck. His career has been marked by mediocrity—his teams have only been ranked No. 1 once, and he made it to the championship game just once without scoring a single point. He has utterly failed to develop a once-in-a-lifetime talent like JD. If he had managed to establish even an average defense, LSU could have reached the finals, but out of 132 teams, he couldn't achieve that. It’s a tragic waste of talent, especially considering the resources available to him. This is a missed opportunity that can no longer be tolerated. Trust in his leadership is gone, and players have lost faith in him. History is telling; look at his track record and consult his former teams. Even his departure from Notre Dame raises serious red flags. He claims we should judge him after year three, yet this has turned out to be his worst season yet. The writing is on the wall—it’s time to make a change.

All I know is the program has declined during the past 3 years rather than improving. Went from winning a division, to finishing 9-3 in the regular season to finishing 8-4 in the regular season. How about some actual on-field progress instead of this giant chip on our shoulder?

It clearly didn't decline in his first year. It took a big leap forward. Year 2 was pretty good with another 10 wins, but disappointing with what could have been with a decent D. This year was a step back. Not terrible, but not a progression.

In the SEC, #1 is 7-1 with the easiest schedule. Three of the top 5 in the SEC have the three easiest schedules. Six teams are locked in at 5-3.
