Brian Kelly spoke on the SEC Coaches Teleconference on Wednesday and provided updates on quarterback Garrett Nussmeier, who is dealing with an abdominal injury.

Kelly said that the rumors that Nussmeier may need surgery are completely false:
quote:

"That's misinformation. Not based on any facts. It's silly that it's out there."
Kelly went on to explain Nussmeier's injury:
quote:

"Early on, he had an ab strain, not a core injury," Kelly said. "And it's been slow to heal. He's on the backside of that, and he's getting rest this week, and he'll be the Garrett Nussmeier that he needs to be as we get into the very difficult part of our schedule."
Kelly also talked about the plan with Nussmeier during the bye week, and the healing process:
quote:

"A lot of mental work, in terms of film study and looking at what he's done this year and what he wants to get better at," Kelly said.

"He was really good on Saturday in the run game checks and getting the ball out when we didn't have fair numbers. We want to build on that. And we want to build on his consistency in terms of, in the pocket."

"Our training staff and physicians have treated him with medications. That's been part of the procedures and protocol."

"We knew coming into this bye week that this was going to be the time for us not to push him. This is where he could really, truly be the best version of himself. I think our training staff has done a great job. And I think you will see the best football as we move forward, from Garrett Nussmeier."
LSU returns from the bye week on October 11 when they face South Carolina at night in Tiger Stadium.

I guess losing to OM wasn't a difficult part of our schedule?

Yeah BK also said that GN was on the backside of this injury back on Sept 17th, but the results have suggested otherwise.

Makes no sense as Nuss looks more hurt and throwing to protect core by upchucking over his shoulder than any earlier game this season.

This guy is full of shite. GN was not good at much of anything on Saturday. So much misleading info is being given to us. Coach, you told us he was ready for OM, lies, all lies.

Somebody make this guy stfu, nobody likes you

Just fix the offense please. Just make us competent. We do not even need a great offense. A competent offense is enough with our D.

Funny for last several years we were saying the same thing about the Defense!!

The defense got lit up last Saturday, what game were you watching? 3rd n 14, 3rd n 18, and many QB scrambles for FD, over 400 yards to a fast midget QB. Both sides of the ball were atrocious. OM lost over 100 yards in penalties.

Lit up to the tune of 24 points on the road after having to play 87 snaps because our offense can't get off the field. Stick to making grilled cheese.

That means forget about this season, BK is going to plat him until he is sure we are out of it. The QB issues are not just injuries, try your mobile QBs. He is becoming Les Miles

He was really good on the run game checks??? Seriously, did he even watch the game?

I didn't understand this statement. Was Nuss checking out of the runs, because that is the only thing that makes sense, because they never ran the ball.

A frustrating but probably correct aspect of CBK's coaching is he runs a right ship. Almost to tight. D coordinator sucks and is getting fired after the year? Sure, but we're not talking about it, getting distracted. It is what it is, and we'll maintain best we can until then. Nuss injured? Yes, but no need to broadcast it. We're dealing with it as we can. Won't change the injury. Fans feel lied to, though I'm not sure it's lying. It's just frustrating. Anyway, if Nuss genuinely heals and can push the ball down field again and we become the team we knew we could be, then more or less win out and get into the playoffs, the OM game will be a far distant memory.

I think you meant O coordinator..........??

No, I was referring to Matt House definitely being the problem and being fired at end of two seasons ago, but BK just keeping it under wraps, player disgruntled sentiments not leaking until after the season, etc. It was actually weirdly professional.

He is not telling tge truth. He is watching the same film we r. Nuss is not planting and following thru.
He cannot because he cannot twist his waist. Like Brees would do in practice. Cannot get that velo.
If the other kid plays and wins does Nuss sit the next game also? Tough spot but that's why he get 100 mil. Saban sat Hurts who lost one game.

BK is acting like old and conservative coaches. Expecting your defense to win games for you without making changes to offense is what doomed Les Miles and the games are not fun to watch.

Anyone who has watched Nuss last year and this year can see that the strength is not there like it was. Those deep balls that are thrown short and the crossers that are behind the receiver are because he expects to have a certain velocity on his throws, but the arm isn't delivering. I went through something similar in HS throwing javelin. I had an abdominal injury, as well as a shoulder injury. I'd pull back and throw with everything I had expecting a certain result, but the power would just not translate.

If we lose to South Carolina I wonder if he will then consider resting him and letting one of the backups take some snaps?

What I took from that is that we’ll see the best version of Nussmeir in the bye week.
