A bright spot on LSU's defense through the first part of the season has been the play of freshman linebacker Harold Perkins.

The five-star defender has made an immediate impact with 26 total tackles, ten quarterback pressures, 1.5 sacks, and one interception.

However, his presence on Saturday's 40-13 loss to Tennessee, was obviously missing as Brian Kelly and defensive coordinator Matt House went with more nickel packages which left Perkins sidelined most of the game.
quote:

"As you guys know, we moved him to SAM linebacker, Kelly said. "Last week was not a position where -- and you know the game. The game was a spread game. You've got two receivers that are out on the numbers."

"Harold would have had to be standing out on the numbers playing the game as the SAM. We nickeled out, so we were in a nickel situation."

"We would have had to change his position back to inside linebacker for that game. We weren't going to do that."

"This is a game that suits him really well. You'll see a lot of Harold Perkins this weekend."

I agree woth everyone else. This is a lame explanation. Change him to Rover, just get him on the field.

How about he plays the kinda linebacker that is on the field in all situations.

He’s been a disrupting force as a freshman, and the coaches outsmarted themselves with this stupid decision.

You don’t keep Perkins off the damn field under any circumstances. I can’t agree with CBK here.

That's pretty stupid. Sit your best linebacker because he doesn't fit scheme. I've never seen Saban do that.

What about Fisher? He might do it. :)

I like Josh Pate, but he's not exactly a football guru who studies the film.

Imagine "The Honey Badger" being benched because he did not fit a scheme. You get your playmakers on the field.

This! I’m a CBK fan but he made no sense on this one.

Between the read option, using a TE as KR and PR, keeping the best defensive player off the field, preseason All-American WR with 1 TD ... midway through the season Brian Kelly looks like a coach who doesn't utilize talent. ACC analytics won't win SEC championships.

So, he’s been effective where he was at, but we moved him to another position/scheme that given Tennessee’s personnel, he probably wasn’t going to be on the field as much….All this resulted in LSU giving up the most points of the season because our stud Fresh LB wasn’t On the field as much.… I understand now why he says we need to coach better! No shite Coach Kelly!

It's bad coaching if your scheme doesn't include #40. But you don't have to take my word for it. Ball don't lie and they dropped a 40 spot in Death Valley

Maybe the true freshman doesn't know the inside position yet since he's not an inside LB.
