Baylor has fired head football coach and former LSU defensive coordinator Dave Aranda after seven seasons, according to ESPN’s Pete Thamel.

The decision comes after Baylor’s 25-24 loss to Kansas on Saturday, which dropped the Bears to 4-3 overall and 2-2 in Big 12 play.

Aranda finishes his tenure at Baylor with a 40-40 overall record.

The 50-year-old coach was hired by Baylor in January 2020 after spending four seasons as LSU’s defensive coordinator under Ed Orgeron from 2016 to 2019.

Aranda played a major role in LSU’s undefeated 2019 National Championship season before leaving Baton Rouge to become Baylor’s head coach.

His best season at Baylor came in 2021, when he led the Bears to a 12-2 record, a Big 12 Championship, and a Sugar Bowl victory over Lane Kiffin’s Ole Miss Rebels.

However, Baylor struggled to maintain that success, posting just one winning season since 2021.

Baylor defensive coordinator Joe Klanderman will serve as interim head coach for the remainder of the season.

LSU’s defenses have improved each year under Blake Baker. Aranda’s defenses were getting worse. The 2019 national championship defense was ranked outside the top 30 and would have never been an undefeated team without a historic offense.

Sorry to see Dave not succeed and continue to be the head football coach at Baylor. He'll find himself another job somewhere else for sure.

I understand wanting to get rid of him, but the interim is no better. Should have just kept him 2 more games
