UL-Lafayette coach Bob Marlin had some interesting comments about Wednesday's upcoming game between LSU and the Ragin’ Cajuns in the NIT, saying the Tigers "probably didn't want to play this game." Per The Advocate:
quote:

“I called Will when he got the job; I didn’t ask him right then about playing, but I have since then and they’re not interested,” he said. “They probably didn’t want to play this game, to be honest.”
Marlin, who led his team to a 27-6 record this season and was the Sun Belt’s regular-season champion, also believed his team deserved to host Wednesday's game.
quote:

“We would like to play this game at home,” he said. “Our athletic director reached out to the commissioner and to a couple others to get a read on the seeding and how that happened.

“Our RPI is much better, our record is much better, we feel like our gym’s better, there are a lot of things that say we should be a higher seed than we were. We’ve got the second-best record in the entire tournament out of 32 teams, but it is what it is.”

“We haven’t gotten an answer yet,” Marlin said. “There’s a lot of the old-school guys on that committee that just think LSU’s better than we are. They haven’t seen our facilities or looked at the finer print about our team.
LSU and UL-Lafayette tip-off at 6 p.m. CT on Wednesday night. The game will be streamed online at ESPN3.com.

27-6 record this season and was the Sun Belt’s regular-season champion 1. Close the deal in your conference tournament 2. You are in the Sun-Belt. You don't get to host!

No disrespect intended(ULL) but when you are your conferences regular season champ and don’t get an invite to the NCAA, that says a lot. Your opinion of yourself is a bit high.

There has been a ton of melt from other programs since Coach Wade came on board.

Welp if Wade didn’t have any Bulletin Board Material for the game tomorrow he sure do now. Even I’m more excited to watch it. 83-71

Idea: As long as these two are the head coaches, LSU plays ULL every year. The winner of this NIT game gets home court next year. You retain home court until you lose at home.

He's right about LSU's (the institution's) preference not to play this game. LSU has everything to lose and nothing to gain by playing ULL.
user avatar
Jrv2damac74 months
...why is that?
user avatar
Because ULL is a lower tier athletic program. It really means nothing if we beat them and if we lose then the perception will be that ULL is building some kind of monster program when’s we know that’s not true.

He's right. We have to beat them to prove otherwise

If a directional school changes it’s name, but no one is around to hear, does it make a sound?

Well, if WW and LSU needed any fuel here it is. What was this guy thinking???of course they are ranked worse. They played sunbelt teams all year.

Your RPI is better lmfao, who have you played and beat that’s relevant...Dumb**

I mean come on man they beat Iowa by 9 points!! The only other relevant team they played was Clemson and got whooped by 29 points. We really should beat this team. The only other wins they have are against the Texas States and South Alabama’s of the world. Not an impressive resume which is why they are 27-6 and still in the NIT.
