UL-Lafayette coach Bob Marlin had some interesting comments about Wednesday's upcoming game between LSU and the Ragin’ Cajuns in the NIT, saying the Tigers "probably didn't want to play this game." Per The Advocate:
quote:

“I called Will when he got the job; I didn’t ask him right then about playing, but I have since then and they’re not interested,” he said. “They probably didn’t want to play this game, to be honest.”
Marlin, who led his team to a 27-6 record this season and was the Sun Belt’s regular-season champion, also believed his team deserved to host Wednesday's game.
quote:

“We would like to play this game at home,” he said. “Our athletic director reached out to the commissioner and to a couple others to get a read on the seeding and how that happened.

“Our RPI is much better, our record is much better, we feel like our gym’s better, there are a lot of things that say we should be a higher seed than we were. We’ve got the second-best record in the entire tournament out of 32 teams, but it is what it is.”

“We haven’t gotten an answer yet,” Marlin said. “There’s a lot of the old-school guys on that committee that just think LSU’s better than we are. They haven’t seen our facilities or looked at the finer print about our team.
LSU and UL-Lafayette tip-off at 6 p.m. CT on Wednesday night. The game will be streamed online at ESPN3.com.

And the conduct by ULL coaches and team after the game is apparently good enough reason not to play ULL unless they absolutely have to.

He also thinks a second cousin doesn't technically count as a relative.

Forever the whiners, and forever LSU’s little brother in everything they do. Some things will never change.

What a winier. he sounds like a coach who is actually pissed he's coaching at a mid-major. Big difference between LSU and USL is that LSU BB program is on an uptick and will be getting better. This is just a step in the right direction for WW and LSU. For USL it is the be all end all games for the program.

LSU vs top 50. 7-6 USL vs top 50. 0-1 LSU vs top 51-100. 1-6 USL vs top 51-100. 0-1 I should not get into the gutter of the schedule. LSU vs top 101-201 3-2 USL vs top 101-201 11-3 LSU vs top 201 up 6-0 USL vs top 201 up 14-1 Now does anyone think if lsu played USL schedule we would be anything but 30-1 or 31-0. I dont see USL could have beat anyone on our top 200 schedule zero wins... Now does this mean lsu wins vs this team, no. Is this a good game for LSU, no. This is everything for USL and nothing for us and this game validates their season if they win. USL needs drastic changes if they want their good record to mean anything. LSU 34% and USL 94% of the schedule was against top 101 or worse teams.... what? They are better then us. Only team we both played was ole piss. Where one team lost by 18 and another team won by 16. Figure it out.. But yeah it's obvious get a better schedule and you have a foot to stand on.

To be fair, That's a bed comparison. Folks that complain about them playing a mid major schedule need to understand that they are a mid major school. They can't play an sec schedule, they are not in the sec

No disrespect intended(ULL) but when you are your conferences regular season champ and don’t get an invite to the NCAA, that says a lot. Your opinion of yourself is a bit high.

LSU's RPI is 94 and ULL's is 61. Is this coach on crack?

ULL has a better gym than us? Have they done any renovations to that place in the last 6 or 7 years because the last time I went in there I was worried it would collapse.

Yeah, they did a 21.1 million dollar renovation that was completed right before last season. It's just as nice as the PMAC.
