LSU Baseball coach Jay Johnson is set to receive a new contract that will pay him more than $3 million per year after winning his second national title in three years, according to The Advocate.

Johnson's new deal will make him the highest-paid college baseball coach in the country, surpassing Tony Vitello at Tennessee.
quote:

Johnson's is set to make $23.45 million over the next seven years with an annual salary that now tops $3 million. He got a two-year extension, so his contract will run through the 2032 season.

Johnson last received a new contract after he won his first national title in 2023, which made him one of the highest-paid college baseball coaches in the country. He made $1.67 million last year before bonuses, and his compensation was set to increase annually until he earned $2 million in 2030.

Johnson will now make $3.05 million over the next year. His compensation increases by $100,000 annually until it reaches $3.65 million in the final year of the contract.
Johnson reportedly signed off on the agreement in August and should have his new deal approved by the LSU board of supervisors on Friday.

LSU recruiting coordinator Josh Jordan and director of baseball operations Josh Simpson are also set to receive new contracts. Here are the details.

Now this is $ well spent! Much better than shelling out 100m to a coach that’s never won a damn thing.

Jay Johnson has accomplished what Nick Saban did. Namely a halo around the whole athletic program. Nick Saban‘s “process“ spread across our sports programs. Of course I am hoping Brian Kelly will do the same. It’s a great time to be a tiger!

I'd say pay him more but don't add more years. Because these coaches are already up in age, respectfully speaking, when they have a couple of depressing seasons there's always backlash/chatter about why they extended the contracts. If the same logic has been applied to Coach O, the university wouldn't be paying him 6-digits yearly not to coach. Jay seems like a quality guy and coach, I don't really follow ?, too boring/slow play. But compared to other sports, it's a cheap contract. Football should revert back to the same cost structure. That way colleges wouldn't have to cut $ from other departments and sports. Just my 2 cents. Please don't judge me.

He's all of 48. Has a long long way to geaux. He has endless energy, eats, sleep, lives college baseball, LSU college baseball, and is a recruiting maniac. Dynasty in the making. Back to the Skip days.
