LSU shortstop Steven Milam has reportedly withdrawn from the 2026 MLB Draft and will return to Baton Rouge for his senior season.

Milam's return gives the Tigers one of the most experienced and productive infielders in college baseball.

The Las Cruces, New Mexico, native has been a key piece of LSU's success since arriving on campus. After earning Freshman All-SEC honors in 2024, Milam helped the Tigers capture the 2025 national championship, earning a spot on the College World Series All-Tournament Team. Per NOLA.com:

Milam has pulled his name out of the draft and will be back at LSU for a fourth season. He hit 11 home runs with a .937 on-base plus slugging percentage this past year for the Tigers. He was even better in Southeastern Conference play, hitting .308 with a .949 OPS.

And defensively, Milam was invaluable. He only committed four errors as the lone bright spot on the Tigers’ infield.

College ball probably pays about the same as he would make in the minor leagues. He can stay at LSU and date hot coeds while continuing to develop his abilities then go take his shot at the pros. Smart move

This is huge for this team and helps Monster work on things that MLB scouts look for. Hige

Like getting taller? I don't mean that as a slight I just think scouts have a hard time getting past the measurables.

If Milam was 6 ft 4 200 lb, hit over 300 in conference /SEC play 2 years in a row w/ occasional power with the clutch gene he showed in last year's championship run, and a fielding percentage of 990 he would be a first or second rounder.

I've always said the same thing about Breeze. He gets a lot of press, but if he was 6'5 230 with exactly the same numbers I think everyone would squarely put him top 5 all time.

It's a short-sighted gift that gets him back to us for another year. No pun intended

Damn good looking infield shaping up for next season. Serna & Arrambide at C/DH, and Watters, Patrick and XXX across the OF. Add a few more quality, experienced arms plus whatever the incoming FR class provides....start warming up the bus Tiger Fans. LFG!

He understands that the likelihood of him making to the majors are slim to none, and that his slot value is not as high as the value of him coming back for one more year.

I'm agnostic on this. He's a dawg and loves LSU, historically very few errors, but he needs to sustain his late season excellence all year.

I think thats why he's coming back. To take that next jump and show scouts what he can do.

So it’s not a good thing to get better in SEC play?
