Not really any other sports on so I figured I’d give it a shot & put on games in the evening while I’m making dinner..,

These dudes are such pussies, my god…how does anyone watch this more than 10 minutes of this

I just saw some douche from Colombia flop so badly grabbing his ankle that he actually hurt his shoulder because he forgot to brace himself before he hit the ground…fake injury led to real injury

In defense of soccer, the Croatian Panama match was prob the worst of the World Cup.
DR of Congo is holding their own. Would be like the 4th largest “upset” of the WC if they get a tie or win.

I’ve watched most of the games. It’s not the flopping that I hate, because most of them really are having contact bring them down.

It’s the rolling around in the ground like they were just hit with a .308 in the leg that gets me.

Like brother I get it, your ankle getting stepped on hurts, but rolling around for 5 minutes while the play is still continuing only to get up and be fine afterwards is absurd.

Try a few games- some are better than others.

I like it for the constant gameplay and how easy it is to follow for someone that’s not typically a sports enthusiast.

In soccer, players can be very physical and nothing is called unless it causes the player to fall to the ground. Any contact to the legs, like a trip, is basically an automatic foul if the defender doesn’t hit the ball first.

It only annoys me when the replay shows there was no contact and the player tries to get a call. That actually doesn’t happen nearly as often as you might expect. Regardless of any rolling around theatrics, most of the time they really were fouled.

I don’t even pay attention to how someone reacts. Just pay attention to whether or not he was actually fouled.

Also, it’s gonna be difficult to get into a sport where you’re watching two random teams that you have zero invested in emotionally. I’d get bored watching something like a random college basketball game between Hofstra and Rutgers, and I like basketball.

If you truly wanted to give the sport a chance, you have to pick a team and become emotionally invested in their season. When you’re emotionally invested, that’s when you start learning about the sport as you watch it and truly begin to like it.

Yeah, same here.....my nephews are 100% down and I'm in a thread with them talking about it, but outside of watching the US play - and even that is challenging for me....it just don't move the needle for me.

But for those for whom it does I'm glad for them, they seem truly excited about it.

Players go to the ground to draw a foul to gain an advantage for their team. A player with the ball getting kicked at or tripped or shoved and just running through it would serve no purpose for him or his team, but it WOULD satisfy the average American meathead sports fan’s desire for macho toughness, so that’s clearly what they should be doing.

Have you ever been kicked in the ankle really hard while sprinting, or had your foot stepped on by a grown man wearing cleats, also while sprinting? It fricking sucks. You’d roll around on the ground too.

This is how you know you let sports become too important in your life.

Yeah but you don’t jump up and become 100% magically better after the foul is called.
