Tesla camera saves innocent man from prison after Police lie about fleeing

• The Incident: In August 2024, Kevin Finley was driving home in Winter Springs, Florida, after dropping his kids off at school. An unmarked police car driven by Officer attempted a traffic stop.
• The Accusation: Officer claimed in his police report that Finley sped, lost traction, fishtailed, and actively fled from him. Finley was later detained at gunpoint outside his garage and handcuffed for 33 minutes. He was hit with criminal citations, including felony fleeing.
• The Tesla Video Evidence: Finley pulled footage from his Tesla's rear and onboard cameras. The video proved that Finley never saw the officer—who was heading in the opposite direction and had to perform a three-point turn—and that his car never lost traction or fishtailed.
• The Outcome: Right before jury deliberations in July 2026, a judge reviewed the Tesla footage and acquitted Finley of all charges. Officer resigned amid an internal investigation following the incident.

Hope he doesn't get a job in law enforcement ever again

What the frick kind of prosecutor would even take that case so far? Prosecutor also needs to go. To prison.

Cop clearly lied. If he lies about something as simple as a left turn, he lies about other things.
I need to get cameras on my car.
I need to get cameras on my car.

This simply can’t be accurate, on multiple levels.
Eta: from an article: “After reviewing the video, the judge acquitted Finley before the case was presented to a jury.“
Now that makes more sense.
Also what’s making more sense is that in no article I’ve found does it mention a defense attorney. He went to the media and he’s hired an attorney to sue, but nothing about the criminal case. So frick that cop and I’m glad he got canned, but it sounds like the “it dragged on for two years” bit might have been a touch self inflicted.

He had a defense attorney. They asked to drop the charges within weeks of the incident. State Attorney refused.

But no charges for the officer who clearly lied and tried to put someone innocent in prison? Where’s the justice in that?
Oh right, let me guess: qualified immunity. That shite needs to go.

Then I’m a little curious how it took two years to get the video in front of the judge. On a misdemeanor.

I thought any immunity at any level, always disappears when the person its granted to lies, breaks the law, or intentionaly doesnt comply in all ways

You’d have zero police. Every cop would be sued after every arrest.

Yeah this is a weird story. The court procedure is odd. maybe if I watched the video or looked into the story it would make sense.

Traffic stop prison?

I don’t think the answer is completely getting rid of qualified immunity, but it needs a completely ground up rework. Our current construction is insane.

From my understanding, the state has possession of the video from the Tesla for a very long time before trial.
The judge never saw it because that's not how the rules of evidence work if it's not subject to a pretrial motion.
They went all the way through the jury trial, both sides had rested, and the defense asked for a directed verdict. This is a common request in a criminal trial, and rarely granted.
A directed verdict is a ruling by a trial judge that takes the final decision away from the jury and orders a specific verdict because one party has not provided enough legally sufficient evidence to support its case.
The most high profile directed verdict recently that I recall was in the Kyle Rittenhouse trial when they said he was unlawfully in possion of a firearm because it was a short barrel rifle. No evidence was ever presented at trial that the rifle wasn't a legal length so the directed verdict was granted on that count.

Good
More Tesla drivers need to be arrested. Still can’t believe Obama let them get married

Why isn’t the state sued after every arrest, then?

Just this weekend I have all my cars with dashcams, front and rear.
I wish manufacturers would just put them on cars so they are integrated.

and that his car never lost traction or fishtailed.
I don’t think I’ve ever read a police report where they didn’t fabricate crimes.
Police officers are pieces of shite, with few exceptions.
