re: How do you get a baby to sleep?

“Moms on call” method. It’s a book written by two pediatric nurses. Similar to babywise but there are some differences. There’s also a Facebook group.

3 years in the banquet department for a hotel/conference center, most of that time as a bartender. Thank god for gratuity included in the catering package because cash tips were crap in that gig. It was mostly fun, easy job though.

That’s exactly why gratuity is added on to catering packages. I cringe when I see tip jars at weddings and other private parties. Your guests shouldn’t have to pick up tab/tip when you invited them somewhere. But working in private events and catering for 5 years, I saw plenty of people who thought otherwise. Even had a cash bar situation where the couple wouldn’t cover the cost of iced tea or other non alcoholic bevs because he had already reached his food and bev minimum with catering.
I was able to sneak some back onto the ship while at port when I was in high school. Just put it in a bag and minded my own business. My parents caught me a day or two later. All the other adults with us were jealous it didn’t get confiscated and asked how I did it. It actually was this exact ship out of Miami in 2006.

Ditto on Texas dealers. We test drove in Shreveport and were quoted sticker price. Called him a few days later and said we were shopping in Houston/Dallas so give us your best price. He didn’t even bother to call us back! Sewell in Dallas offered the best price on my QX60, but their woodlands location was also great when I lived in Houston with my G37.

Football weekend crowds on the square are manageable if you know how to do it.

Places like Ajax and Boure will have lines form outside before opening....usually 11am. For whatever reason, boure doesn’t open their upstairs balcony on Friday until 1pm. We usually have someone go stand in line for lunch while the others shop, park, etc.

I’m long removed from Friday nights on the square. If I was younger and more fun, I’d be at the Library Sports bar (afternoon before they start charging cover. They will give out wristbands at some point to those already in there.) Funkys is a good daiquiri and pizza bar. Rafters seems cool too from the few times I’ve been up there.

Only people that hate Houston live in the burbs. Never met anyone inside the 610 loop that didn’t love it

Bingo. Had a great time as a single young adult inside 610. I would have hated it if I lived in an apartment complex in Katy.

Family business brought us back to North La. fortunately we were able to get a nice sized, probably our forever home for less than what we would have paid for something in the Heights. Also helped that my townhouse in Houston increased 40% in value from 2011-2015.

If we would have stayed there, I would only want to be inside 610 or perhaps Briargrove etc. anything in the burbs is too generic and not actual Houston.

We went for a work trip this summer, so didn’t have a ton of free time, but got to hit the high points.

We did a White House tour (you have to apply I think 3 months in advance) and also scheduled a capital tour thru our congressman. Both were great to see, but I’d chose capitol over White House if I could only pick one. The intern who guided us at the capitol was just more in-depth than the self guided White House tour.

We stayed at the Mayflower for our conference. It was average. Small rooms.

The Hay Adams has a cool bar across the street from the White House, as well as the rooftop at the W as mentioned above.

Karma for bringing a 6 month old on a plane

For real? She was more well behaved on that flight than some other passengers. Just because I have a kid doesn’t mean we stay home.

We were leaving the Ritz in Boston at 6am on a Sunday morning for our flight home. Had our 6month old in a car seat strapped between us in the backseat.

A young man (on something for sure) comes up to our drivers window asking for a ride. Driver ignores him. Young man starts banging on the window. I literally scream at him to please drive away (we were at a red light and he had at least 2 cars distance ahead.) he ignores me too. Thankfully nothing happened but he doesn’t say a word the rest of the trip.

It scared the shite out of me.

Frank’s pizzeria has a pretty good steak, but is perhaps a bit casual.

I agree with superior steakhouse. Also might want to look into Silver Star on Ellerbe.

Either El tiempo in the loop for good Tex mex. I also like escalantes in highland village but it’s a little bougie. Good shopping in HV too could make it a lunch stop.

LaGriglia in River Oaks Shopping Center is also a favorite if you like Italian. And they have a good happy hour if you are there in time Friday night.

Adair kitchen would be a good brunch or lunch option and is near the galleria.

No bar suggestions because I’m 31 and it’s been a few years since I lived there.

Besides a good view, you’d be better off taking her to Applebee’s.

I suggest Voyagers (inside Perdido Beach Resort) if your budget allows. Otherwise look at Fishers or Playa.

Buy alcohol and drink at the house you rented unlike drinking in a shitty condo

Sure, I guess we could have done that. But we had a nice dinner and were having some nightcaps with friends while the in laws kept our sleeping 1 year old back at our condo. Plus I have the discretionary income for $15 glasses of wine, so house parties aren’t my thing 10 years out of college.

You missed my point. Both places are great and offer different experiences. But I guess I’m white trash who likes Orange Beach so what do I know!

U mean redneck riveara? Don’t spend your money on a new truck you can’t afford, and throw some extra money into this trip and make it worth your while. Go to 30-a, maybe rent a house for the the week in an isolated area, with private beach access, and have a real relaxing week not spent fighting the white trash at gulf shores

Oh we’ve got an internet badass over here.

I just got back from a long wedding weekend at Rosemary/Seacrest and I still like Orange Beach just as much. They are just different places. Rosemary and Seacrest are more walkable but our place shared deeded beach access with like half the town. Plus everything closes at 9pm! I’ve never had last call at 8:45!

Orange beach isn’t as walkable, but it’s 2 hours closer to me, and I can walk out to the beach in seconds from our first floor unit.

Orange Beach may have some trashballs at the lower end Phoenix towers but own/rent at the right places, eat dinner at Fishers or Voyagers, and you can avoid them.

Go follow the Instagram page @feedinglittles it has been a good resource for me. Even just seeing screenshots of other kids meals and thinking “oh I should buy that at the store next time”

At 13 months old, my daughter lives on bananas, yogurt, pb&j sandwhiches, shredded cheese, and any kind of fruit. She would eat deli meat leading up to her first birthday but then started refusing it all of a sudden.
4 months old is easy. We took our daughter on a 9 hour drive to in laws at 3 months and then flew to Boston at 4 months. Plus four trips to Oxford during football season as she was older. 11 total car trips when you count the beach etc. At 1 year she has just recently gotten to the point that she knows what’s up. We do an iPad or phone with YouTube (but I have to sit with her to keep it working, otherwise she touches it) hardback books, etc and keep a folded quilt tucked between the car seat and door so she doesn’t drop them to the side. Chick-fil-A’s are ideal for clean bathroom stops.

Keep a spot cleared next to the car seat Incase the passenger needs to hop in the back seat. Otherwise enjoy the frequent naps when they are this young.
We’ve stayed in Presidio (the inn) for one night on the way to Sonoma. We were a quick uber from Gary danko’s and then took our car to lunch at the Cliff House on the way out of town. The Presidio location allowed for a great morning walk with close views of the Golden Gate Bridge and some gorgeous houses. For the price we enjoyed it.

We’ve also stayed at the W which I think was downtown. But that was years ago and I had an employee discount for Starwood.

8 eggs
1 tsp dry mustard
1 tsp onion salt
Pepper to taste
2 1/4 cup milk
1 lb ground sausage, slightly browned and drained
1/2 lb cheddar cheese, shredded (2 cups)
8 slices bread, torn into cubes

Beat together the eggs, dry mustard, onion salt, pepper, and milk. Stir in the sausage, cheese, and bread. Spread in a greased 9x13 baking dish. Cover and refrigerate overnight. Bake at 325 for one hour.

This is a great recipe from a Junior League cookbook. We use it for holiday mornings, beach trips, etc.
