Heading to Oxford for the game this weekend. Looking for recs on places to eat/drink and stuff to do before the game. Definitely going to check out the Grove but otherwise open to suggestions.

Boure balcony.
although to be honest... the square on a busy gameday like LSU really is not fun at all.
way too crowded to enjoy it

Football weekend crowds on the square are manageable if you know how to do it.
Places like Ajax and Boure will have lines form outside before opening....usually 11am. For whatever reason, boure doesn’t open their upstairs balcony on Friday until 1pm. We usually have someone go stand in line for lunch while the others shop, park, etc.
I’m long removed from Friday nights on the square. If I was younger and more fun, I’d be at the Library Sports bar (afternoon before they start charging cover. They will give out wristbands at some point to those already in there.) Funkys is a good daiquiri and pizza bar. Rafters seems cool too from the few times I’ve been up there.

Taylor grocery is great.
Their boneless wings are a damn good appetizer.
Also get a side of rotel with your fries or whatever . GOATT
You’d prob have to be parked and chilling an hour before that thing opens out.
I live here and we only go during spring break/Christmas or the summer when the students are gone and the crowd is less

Any recommendations on where to go in the Square for game day (both bars and restaurants)? Something that isn't absolutely absurd (standing in line).
Also, can someone guide me through the Grove for visitors? I'm assuming we can't just roll up to any tailgate and start eating and drinking, correct? Are Ole Miss fans generally welcoming to LSU fans?
ETA: Do gas stations sell cold beer? Should we buy an ice chest before hand? Everything -- beer, wine, and liquor, must be in cups, correct? TIA.

I’m not a Grove person, never really have been.. so I will concede to others ..
There’s definitely some upscale ( city grocery - I can’t pronounce half their menu so I never go . And Mcewens and some middle tier places ( much more my speed and palate preference ) ...
For the bargain and price and quality. Ajax all day.
South depot for margs and Mexican ( think chipotle without the violent diarrhea )
Funkys has good daiquiris and pizza. Always a good spot. ( Hack- get an extra rum shot in your daiquiri.. it’s only $2 and you won’t get a cheaper shot in town)
Moes- which is a Alabama bbq chain.. their food is always good... I play trivia there during the week and there’s a bar downstairs called Penny bar that I like.. $2 PBR drafts. Hard to beat
As far as steaks go.. Oxford grillehouse is good on the square but there’s a new one off college hill called Kings that I think is better .
Boure postgame is always our go to move.. champagne on the balcony.. I’m working so I won’t be able to go but usually that’s where you can find me and my friends after a big home game .
There will be too many students at the other typical college bars so that’s a good Break from them

I used to go up there a lot when my cousins went to school, especially there when we'd play each other. Contrary to most, I was treated great. Little jabbing back and forth but most tents were very welcoming. You'll run into uber-drunk fans that can get heated but that's anywhere as the visitor. Gas stations do sell beer- I can't remember if it was cold though bc it was (is? ) a dry county. Stop in Batesville if you want it cold. The square- generally just go where it's not crowded! Seems like there's a restaurant and bar every few feet spaced.
Bring your cooler. It's supposed to be in cups but as long as your not being a jackass to cause attention to yourself, its one of those rules thats hard to enforce. Lots of folks drink out of the can. Start up conversation with folks, before you know it they'll let you watch their tv and eat their food.
