Not sure when you are trying to go, but they just closed all entrances to Yellowstone because of catastrophic flooding, rock and mud slides. A lot of roads are washed out. It often takes a very long time to fix these roads. It will be something to watch.

We have been planning a trip there for months, will be there in a little over a week. Definitely been keeping an eye on that. Worst case we find other things to do in Montana.

yeah that sucks man. Its bad. But there is plenty that y'all can get into within a reasonable drive. I'd go ahead and start planning on alternate plans tbh.

We have a family trip to YS planned for mid July. The families (kids & grandkids) are starting to panic cause they don’t think the entire park will be open by then. The north side is looking questionable.
Not sure what our backup plan is; go to Rapid City, SD maybe, or go another year.

One of the officials just stated that the road from Gardiner to Cooke City will be closed for the rest the season.

We’ll that includes Lamar Valley I believe. That’s one of the highlights of the park, IMO.

Our plans were 1st night at Mammoth, then 2 at Ole Faithful & 2 at Lake YS & the last night outside the park in Cooke City or Silver Gate (forget which one). Doesn’t sound like that is going to work now.

Not sure where your flying into but it's about 400 miles to Whitefish and Glacier NP (from Yellowstone, 500 from Jackson) Renting a condo at Big Mountain Resort in Whitefish is very doable alternative. Worth checking out.

Eat a Huckleberry bear claw in Polebridge and thank me later!!

The good (ish) news for us is we're staying near West Yellowstone. Seems most likely to be open if they do open any up in the next week or so.

Looks like southern loop will be open Monday. They are going to feel out how the crowds are, and may move to a ticketing/reservation system to keep traffic under control since everyone will be forced south

I’m hoping they do go to a reservation type system

Thanks for the info guys. We are traveling there at the end of July assuming that the parks website is the best place to get updated information?

Nope, Whitefish and Glacier are closed as well. Definitely don't go here instead and fill up the restaurants and parking, it will be closed. Everyone stay out of Whitefish and Glacier until after July 4th.

They’re instituting an alternating even/odd license plate entrance day to cut potential crowds in half. However, if you have lodging booked in the park, your Xantera booking confirmation will get you in those days regardless of license plate.

Second flying into Idaho Falls. If you drive up to West Yellowstone, you might see Uncle Rico throwing a football.
Also, an easy drive up to Jackson from there.
