I'm fairly lucky as the worst I've experienced is a delay of 55 minutes leaving New Orleans for Los Angeles. There was an issue with the plan and they made the announcement we would have to leave the plane then they came back over the intercom and said it the issue could be fixed. So essentially we sat on the terminal for an hour.

United, Philly to Rome. We boarded on time, only to hear the pilot announce that some AC system component needed immediate maintenance, so we would be sitting at the gate for “a little while”.....which turned into 2.5 hours. At the freaking gate, where we were literally feet from AC, restrooms. food, etc. We weren’t allowed off the plane, and all the flight attendants offered was water. The experience turned me into a compulsive snack packer: I won’t get on a plane without at least a liter of water arc a days worth of calories. I feel less claustrophobic and get less annoyed by delays if I at least know that I have some decent food/snacks and my own water.

Not all that bad but Dulles to Dublin first 2 planes had mechanical issues. 2 hour delay and they put us on a domestic flight sized plane for the international flight.

Houston to Salt Lake City on Delta about 15 years ago. Landing gear wouldn’t fully deploy so we encircled the airport dumping fuel. Announcement came over the PA that the wheels had all come down and we were cleared to land. It was a pretty scary (and very long) 30 minutes.

We were still greeted by a caravan of fire trucks which was also scary.

My second experience would be Belgium to Venice on Ryan Air. For such a clear day I've never experienced that much turbulence. I thought I was going to die in the mountains

Flying from Hawaii to Indianapolis, with a layover in Dallas.

Got to Dallas at around 8:30 AM, supposed to fly to Indy at 10:30 AM. The flight kept getting delayed, basically every hour or 2 it would get pushed back again. Fast forward to 9:30 PM, 6-7 delays and countless gate changes later. We say frick it, were starting to get worried it’s going to get cancelled and never fly out - we talked to some people who had been stranded in DFW for 48 hours. We rent a car and drive 12 hours through the night to Indy. It’s my dad and I, so just the two of us driving and switching shifts. Never been so tired in my life, and more than a few times I caught myself dozing off while driving and having to blare the music or get another coffee.

This was in December, and apparently one of the worst ice storms Dallas had ever experienced.

Continental - 2 hour holding pattern over Houston on a BTR to IAH propeller flight. Worst turbulence I've ever seen, by FAR, for at least an hour. Without seat belts our heads would have banged on the ceiling repeatedly. There was a tornado on the ground next to IAH while we were circling.

American - 7 hours on the tarmac in Austin on a flight from Denver to Dallas. Weather was horrible in Dallas so we put down in Austin for a long time until it cleared. Never were allowed to get off the plane, just sat on a corner of the runway in the early morning hours with dozens of other planes.

Landing in Minneapolis in a facking blizzard. High winds, the plane rocking side to side, the guy next to me says - "this weather is worse than last month and they sent us away then".

Two delays of around 10 hours each in the last 2 years.

In the middle seat between two obese people - several times. I now go to extreme measures to be sure this never happens again.

Circled the Denver airport for about 45 minutes. Felt like something sketchy was going on. Then encountered gut wrenching turbulence on the way down. Glad I survived that one

Just out of pure boredom, a ~14-15hr flight from PEK to ORD - has to be the oldest/most raggedy plane in the United fleet. Had the single screen up front that they played some musical on over and over. I got stuck in a middle seat, due to a last minute change. My tablet wasn't charged and I can't sleep for shat on planes. I was so ready to get off of there.

Have been stuck on the tarmac for 3hrs before an 8+ Hour flight.

Air China flight where I seemed to be really hated by the flight attendant form HKG to PEK was also really odd.

Got delayed 12 hours leaving Grand Cayman once. Plane got damaged when it landed and they couldn’t fix it so they had to send another plane down to get us.

There ain’t shite to do in the Grand Cayman airport, and they never gave us a clear answer so we couldn’t leave.

Chicago to Paris in March. Boarded the plane. Had to wait for an hour and a half as the wings needed de-icing. Once the wings were clear , the runway needed de-icing. By the time the runway was good to go (hour 4), the wings had accumulated with snow and ice again and had to be cleaned off yet again. We sat on the plane for 7.5 hours before taking off. By hour 6 , there was a person on standby offering an international flight voucher and $750 in travelers checks to anyone that would give their seat up.

Hit a thunderstorm on descent into Memphis. That was pretty rough.

Never had many problems otherwise. I lucked out one time and got on an earlier flight in SLC to Dallas. A snow storm was coming and the flight I was supposed to be on ended up being delayed 5 or 6 hours.

Was on private jet, landing at a small delta airport, back during the summer and the pilot aborted the landing because he didn’t think he could get it stopped. We touched down and for a split second you could feel that he’s not going to hit the brakes and you know what’s going on ain’t correct, but once he throttled up and got back in the air it was a relief. I was the first one off and the pilot looked at me and goes, “If I don’t like it, I don’t do it.”

I have had many flights with bad turbulence, sitting next to screaming babies or super fat people with no space awareness, but this takes the cake...

About 3 months ago I was on a flight from ATL to MEM. (Thank God it was a short flight).

I am in Delta Comfort in the window seat. Two guys come behind me and sit in the middle and aisle seat WREAKING of booze. They are being loud and obnoxious.

Then the middle guy starts rubbing the thigh of the aisle seat guy. They can’t keep their hands off of one another and keep kissing each other.

I am sneaking pics and sending it to friends like “wtf have I stumbled into...”

We take off and everyone shuts their windows, so it gets dark. That’s when they get their jacket out to spread across the lap of the aisle guy and the middle guy starts giving him a handjob.

I felt trapped and violated. I went to take a video to prove to people what I saw, but now that the windows are all down and it’s dark in the plane, my flash comes on and they both realize that I am videoing one guy jacking another guy off.

SpyCam Accomplishment: FAILED

At one point, the (male) flight attendant came by and asked the middle guy to please get his hands out from under the aisle guys jacket because “someone might get the wrong idea”, but the FA knew exactly what was going on.

About 5 years ago we flew into Jackson Hole during a winter advisory on Dec 21st.. Flight got rough about the time we hit Colorado. First attempt to land we never glimpsed runway. Second attempt we got down to about 300 ft and plane was moving side to side and twisting and pilot aborted and hit the jets. You could hear people crying and a woman directly behind us got her phone out and called her mom to tell her goodbye. As we circled around the 3rd time the pilot said if we didn’t land on the next attempt we were diverting to Utah and would be bussed back to Jackson. Each circle around took 8-10 minutes and it was like being in a washing machine at times. 3rd attempt to land was rough but the pilot stuck it down hard and we got in. Looked over at my wife and she had tears.

Got in to the airport and they had mimosas to welcome visitors.. Wife had several. We were looking outside at the wind and the snow blowing across the tarmac and a big JCB front end loader that was clearing snow was returning from a snow dump and the front wheels broke free and did 2 slow motion 360s. I just looked at her and said let’s go drop our stuff at the hotel and head to a bar.

I’ve flown over 2M miles...not going to lie, it was pucker up time on that flight.

In the 1980s returning from Montreal to Houston. Pilot announces an emergency landing in NY. We landed on an isolated runway and all passengers had to deplane, stand on the tarmac and identify our luggage. There was a phoned in bomb threat. Security procedure logic at the time that was to search the plane and deal with any unclaimed bags might be dangerous. Since all bags were claimed, the bags and passengers reboarded and our flight continued. The possibility of a suicide bomber who would claim his luggage with a bomb wasn't even a distant thought.

Bozeman, MT to NOLA via Minneapolis, middle of winter, on the old Northwest Airlines.

Delayed getting out of Bozeman, get into Minny 15 min after my connection took off, no more flights to NOLA that day.

I'm offered a choice. It's about 3 pm at this point. I can take a 4 pm flight to Memphis, and they will put me up for the night there, and a flight to NOLA from Memphis at 7 am the next day, or I can get a hotel in Minny and catch a 10 am flight in the morning to NOLA.

I had some friends in Memphis so I chose that option. They are able to re-route my luggage, and I head to the gate. Plane boards about 20 min late. Get on the plane, roll about 200 feet, and sit. 2.5 hour delay. Then, they announce, flight cancelled due to mechanical issue. Bring everyone back to gate.

Stand in line for an hour. No more flights to Memphis that night. And the 10 am flight to NOLA the next day is now sold out. And no more hotel vouchers.

End up getting my own hotel room and took at 3 pm flight the next day from Minny to NOLA. By the time I got to my hotel, I was so annoyed I just crashed.

Flying into San Francisco a few years ago, weather was awful, and apparently wind was horrible, we would descend and slow down then you would feel the plane speed up and push you back in your seats. This happened 5 times. Pilot was saying that he was getting wind shear warnings of some kind, and not safe to try to land, so we circled for over an hour before finally landing.
