Wife and I Are Thinking About A Trip To Italy Next Year For Our 30th Anniversary

I’m guessing we would do a 10-14 day trip. What are some recommendations for cities and must-see things for a first trip to Italy for a 50-year-old couple. I think we would likely go in April.

We loved Cinque Terre on our honeymoon. Also Tuscany because wine. If we went back I would do Naples and north into the alps.

I hate to tell you to pass up Rome but here is what I would do, especially if romance is a higher priority than history.
Fly in to Florence, get a rental car at the airport, drive about 20 miles south , and stay here for a week. La Canonica di Cortine
That is an excellent base from which to explore Siena, Montalcino, Montelpulciano , San G. and the smaller Tuscan hill towns. Then you can turn your rental car back in and stay in Florence for a couple of days. Then take the train to Venice for a few days and fly home from there.
This may be my favorite itinerary. We have done that twice, most recently in 2018.
If you want to go to Rome, go there, then take the train to Naples and spend a week on the Amalfi Coast, using Positano as a base.

There are all kinds of options for travel in Italy. You you fly into Rome and make that your base. Take trains from there to all the cities mentioned. There’s even train service to Palermo in Scilly. This is European train travel, much better than what we have in US.

Will be following this as my wife and I are likely going to Italy next year to celebrate our 20th.

The wife and I did 10 days through Venice, Florence and Rome a few years back. It was a great trip.
