Where should you go for your first trip to Asia.

I’ve travelled abroad pretty extensively, but it’s been mostly to Europe. I really want to experience Asia for 14 days next year. My wife and I are pretty adventurous, but also like relaxing time as well. We enjoy outdoor activities and local cuisines.
I don’t know whether to do Thailand, Japan, Philippines, etc.

I’ve only done Thailand but it was super easy and really cheap.
Thailand first then Japan would be my recommendation having not been to Japan yet, which is very high on my list.

Haven't been to Thailand or the Philippines, but I highly recommend Japan.

Tokyo for part and then tour Japan. Beautiful country and wonderful people. Trains there are great too.

Wife and I did a 13 day trip to Thailand and Cambodia a few years ago. Highly recommend.

SE Asia …. If you only have two weeks, I would recommend Vietnam over Cambodia (and I like Cambodia)
Vietnam is magical …. I would fly into BKK and spend two nights there, 3 in The islands, 2 in Chiang Mai then fly to Hanoi, Danang / Hoi An and Saigon … that will give you a nice overview

I mean, you can't do Japan right now, because they are still basically closed due to COVID. There are rumors that could change soon, but you can't go today.

Fly into Hong Kong and spend 2 days, then jump down to Philippines for a few days then Vietnam or Thailand.
Be warned, the Manila domestic airport is a shithole if you’re jumping to a smaller island. Say your prayers.

Have spent time in Bangkok and Koh Samui Thailand. Can’t recommend them enough. Thailand is cheap and awesome

Japan.
Outdoor Activities:
1. Climb Mt. Fuji: book a night at the highest lodge station you can, overnight for a few hours, commune with fellow hikers, and watch the sunrise from the top. It’s a real experience.
2. Bike the shimanami kaido bike trail across the seto inland sea. This is one of my favorite travel experiences and takes you into more small town/rural Japan.
3. Canyoning in the interior of Shikoku.
Relaxation: the entire country is dotted with onsen hot springs and ryokans. Stay and soak.
Local Cuisines: arguably the best culinary offerings of any nation on the planet.
Japan checks all your boxes.

Japan/ S Korea/ Singapore is a good intro to modern Asia, then you can do more “3rd world” Asia Vietnam/ Thailand etc.

I've done Thailand and it was amazing. Also super cheap once you get over there.

Japan is a ton of fun and probably the most accessible of the bunch. Tons of touristy things to do in Tokyo (Maid/Owl Cafes, video game shite everywhere, robot restaurants etc). Once you leave Tokyo its pretty different and more "Japan". First trip to Asia I'd probably go that route just because of the density of things to see and do.
Personally, best trips I've ever been on were South Korea and Taiwan. Seoul itself wasn't super unique, reminded me of a poorer Tokyo with less video game stuff. But the food was phenomenal, lodging nice and cheap. the people in Asia are mostly xenophobic but if you get passed that the Koreans rage fricking hard so nightlife was great. Short train ride to Busan for a different vibe. Taipei was similar to Seoul but more friendly and less off the rails at night. I'd say these two places are firmly between 1st and 3rd world, a really good bridge between a place like Tokyo and going to Cambodia or some shite

I did a 4 month trip to SE asia and went to most countries except for Philippines and then did a japan/Philippines trip for my honeymoon. For a 14 day trip Japan/Philippines is a great combo if you haven’t been to either. Check out noa noa island in the Philippines. It’s one of the best places I’ve ever stayed.
Thailand is awesome as well and could easily be combined with Cambodia or Vietnam for a two week trip.
