Depends on when the vaccine is available to every one and if people take it. I have seen projections for the vaccine being widely available as soon as April 2021. If that's the case, then maybe by the end of summer?

I'm pretty sure I know who he linked without clicking, but yes it appears the last spike may have peaked a few days ago, with vaccine rollout we shouldn't approach this level ever again. By late May he has infections below 10,000 a day if vaccine rollout goes as his current assumptions.
These assumptions are subject to change of course. Could move up or back.
Studies are starting to show what was assumed as well that vaccines lower infections/spread.

Yeah, the US right now has about 29% of the population who's been infected, and of course, that's still increasing. We're vaccinating 1 million per day, and that will increase when the Johnson & Johnson and AstraZeneca vaccines are approved.
It's not mathematically possible for infections to stay anywhere their current level once we reach 70-80% of the population has either had COVID or the vaccine.
Yes, the new variant from the UK is more virulent, but warming weather beginning in late March will counteract the effect on the rate of transmission.
I am about to plan a couple of international trips for the summer, without any worries about COVID.

I have one planned for late May/early June.
My biggest issue are COVID test strict requirements to/from and mask mandates for my kid. Hopefully those roll back a smidge by then but I doubt it.
The virus itself is the least of my issues for the trip

Think I can deal with six months. To be honest, masks are the slightest inconvenience to me, so it hasn't totally affected my outlook on air travel. Is what it is.

Hey Bluegrass, did I read your possibly headquartered in ATL website correctly in seeing that young kids are not as strictly required to wear masks on board?
One of my kids is 4 and has a medical condition, a mask is out of the question, and we’d love to be able to travel if possible.
I plan to call and clarify as well but I didn’t know if this was something you were already aware of and / or maybe have discussed with co workers, leadership, etc

Probably never. Get used to it.
Like the TSA folks getting to second/third base after 9/11 - once something is implemented, it seems fairly tough to unimplement it.

I would definitely call and get 100 percent calcification. The guidelines change every day and it’s a lot to keep up with.

Delta has a rational policy. Most airlines outside the US have a rational age policy regarding masks and children.
Unfortunately, Delta is not a great option from our airport, but growing its presence. Once it does and I unwind my relationship with another airline, I'm likely to reward them for that. That rule almost single handedly keeps us off flights now that's he's two. We had flown with him almost monthly from the time he was 3 months old until COVID hit.

I agree with this. Once we get to the general public having the vaccine in high numbers - 60-70% of the total population - I think you'll start to see mask mandates on planes subside. My guess is that's somewhere in the July/Aug timeframe. Even still, I wouldn't be surprised if masks are mandatory until close to the end of the year.
After that, you'll likely have to sign a waiver saying that if you haven't had the vaccine, they are liable if you get it.
I wouldn't be surprised if a lot of people wear them voluntarily on flights for a while though after the requirements are lifted.

There's no vaccine for shoe bombs. Masks will go away eventually. This is all temporary.

With mask mandates ending and the CDC updates from this week anyone see masks going beyond 2022 for commercial flights or do you see some leniency at the end of the year or early 2022?

I think US airlines will follow CDC guidelines with no masks for vaccinated. No idea how they will enforce that.
