The nice cruises are really nice but you have to be willing to pay. The low level cruises are not something I’d subject myself to.

If you like cruising, yeah. Its not my thing. But i can see where a Mediterranean or Norway cruise would be interesting.

Small ship cruising is where its at, if you like more adventure. Less port calls, more hiking, kayaking, wildlife.

In Alaska, Uncruise is a big player. Great company.

We're talking about Croatia and that side of Italy. I'd also like to do one of the high-end cruises in the French wine regions.

for my wife and I, we would never take another cruise together. much easier to fly to an island and stay for a week.

But if we bring our kid there is a tons of crap for him to do and he loved it. He wants to do another one.

Christopher McCandless tried seeing Alaska without going on a cruise and it didn’t work out so well.

I have seen Alaska from Seward and Valdez all the way to Deadhorse. It worked out well for me.

In the Caribbean yes. There’s only one way I travel to the islands and you nailed it.

There is a fairly small window of time in your life where you will enjoy a cruise or two. After it comes, that ship leaves port.

Yeah, the Disney cruises in particular are really great ways for parents to actually relax on a family vacation, because they can enjoy time together while their kids are entertained elsewhere on the boat.

Never desired to go on a cruise then the mother in law paid for the whole family to take one to Alaska. Wound up being one of my favorite trips ever. And that was with my luggage not making the layover and not having anything for the first four days of the cruise! If I was ever to do it again I would make sure to fly in the day before the boat leaves. Ziplining in Juneau was a blast!

We love them. As a segment of the types of vacations we take, they’re great.

We’ve done European cruises: 3 Mediterranean itineraries RT from Rome (Civitavecchia, actually); one-way Barcelona to Athens; British Isles and Normandy RT from Dover; and the Baltic and North Seas RT from Dover. For all of those, we spent at least a week on land in Europe before the start of the cruise. We've done an Alaska cruise. That one we flew up to Anchorage, did Denali, and then did a one-way itinerary south to Vancouver. We've done various Caribbean itineraries. Mexican Rivera from L.A. And then several short jaunts to the Bahamas where we took lots of naps and laid in the sun and it didn’t really matter all that much where we were going because the only thing we did onshore was some sort of watersport.

They’re not my favorite type of vacation (they are my husband’s and daughter’s favorites, though), and I wouldn’t want them to be the majority of our travel experiences. But they have their place, and we all really do enjoy them when we decide to go on one.

Never been on one. I want to get to my destination as quickly as possible and spend time on land. I want to spend as least time as possible on a plane, car, train, or boat.
If I want an easy vacation I'd just go to all inclusive in Cancun.

we did an Hawaiian cruise. Was a good way to hit multiple islands in 1 week without alot of hassle.

Alaska was a good cruise as well in/out of Vancouver.

Was hoping for Norway last year but COVID...

Caribbean has gotten repetitive tho wouldn't mind doing southern Caribbean

We do one every ~6yrs or so...

The nice cruises aren’t cheap. Cruises are fine for the right scenario.

Not trying to post an OT answer, but if you are asking for cruise advice on Tigerdroppings, you’re in the wrong place.

Forget the Caribbean. Think European river cruises, Alaska, Antarctica…the elite packages are worth it.

We love cruises. You say they are a lazy way to travel. Well, duh. Who wants to run around like a crazy person on vacation? Relax.

I’ve been cruising since I was a child and although the industry has changed over the last 35 years, we still enjoy them. Definitely not our only vacation plans but usually sail a week every year and a half or so. Like others have said, with kids it’s really enjoyable and we make them a more sociable vacation then just sit on our balcony, read and look for solitude the entire time. If we want that, we chose another vacation destination. But, with a single child and the right combo of ship, destination port and itinerary we it usually offers a fun option for all of us for one of our vacations that year.

On a side note, we were invited and sailed on the Mariner of the Seas (Royal Caribbean) test cruise a few weeks ago and there was less than 500 guests on board. For a ship that can handle almost 4,000 ppl it was definitely a different experience..sometimes it was really cool and other times it made us miss the social aspect and especially the people watching.

Only been on one. I see the appeal for some people, but they really weren't for me. Not much desire to go on one again, at least through the big cruise companies. Some of those smaller ones look pretty cool.

They are fun. Don't worry about other people and do what you think is fun and you will have a good time.

I have been on four cruises and always had a good time. It is lazy travel, but it forces me to chill out because days at sea are laid back. Otherwise, I am going 90 mph if I plan the trip.

You said it is the lazy way to travel, but to some like myself that is the point. We have done a ton or trips and vacations. I have driven from Mobile/Auburn to NYC/Boston/Niagara/Cleveland and back. I have driven to Chicago twice. St Louis another time. I have been to DC. Done Charleston/Savannah/Jacksonville. Driven to Dallas, Las Vegas and so on. Some of these multiple times.

To me a cruise is the most relaxing vacation because I can drive to Cape Canaveral, Charleston or New Orleans park the car and just relax. Then for the next 5-7 days i don't have to think about getting up early, packing the car, driving to the next location and doing it all over again.

The vacations that we drive are jam packed because we are trying to go and see so many things.
