We are flying in to SFO tommorow around noon. We have dinner reservations at Commonwealth at 530. What is something we can do to fill the day that will take 3-4 hours?

Have done Alcatraz and walking tour of mission district in the past.

The big Bus tour is about 2 hours. You get to see all of the big site int he city. Don;t get off the bus or you will have to wait for a bus to pass with empty seats. Try to get to the top if you can.

The Science museum can take a few hours as well. It's really cool. There is always a group-on for tickets.

That entire park has a bunch of stuff now that I think about it.

We have done the horticulture museum in the park. Other than the science museum, what else is good?

The de Young museum can be good depending on what exhibit is there. There are multiple gardens. The tea garden is ok, but not a must see. There is an ice Cream "Museum" I'm not sure what it's all about. There are several botanical gardens and walking trails. In the west end of the park, there is the beach and I've heard something about a Bison paddock.

Also, if you have never seen Chinatown, you must do it for a little while. Grab a beer at Red's bar. It's just off the main street. The locals are kind enough if you leave them alone.

if you end up going to chinatown ... drop into R+G Lounge for a half order of the salt and pepper crab. There will be a few seats at the bar.

incredible

Hope you aren’t talking about the museum of ice cream, it is just a place for millennials to take Instagram pics.

I honestly have no clue what it is. I just saw it on the map when I was there. We didn't go.

I love the coast over at Lands End park. There’s a private beach, depending on tide and your general gaminess. There’s an amazing little outcropping, depending on tide and your general gaminess, where you can put your back to the ocean and both see down Ocean Beach and the GG bridge by just turning your head. It’s anazing out there.

City Lights bookstore and then walk across the street to Vesuvio (dive bar) and get a couple drinks. Jack Kerouac used to get drunk there. Maybe just walk around. Check out Ferry Building market.

Of course depends on your style.5 hours isn’t too long. If you want to cram as much in as possible then maybe a bus tour.

Take a cab (or a bus) out to Seal Rocks, have a drink at the Cliff House. Walk on the beach a bit, see wildlife, kite surfers, etc

Some great suggestions in here already. I’ll second House of Nanking for a quick meal (and I mean quick, they get you in, seated, served, and out as fast as they possibly can). Also while in Chinatown stop in LiPo Lounge for a drink, I’m not even going to describe it bc you’ll need to see this place for yourself.

If you go the other direction, Lands End Park is awesome, truly beautiful scenery. The Cliff House is spectacular and should not be crowded when you’re going. The views are unreal.

Penang Garden @ 728 Washington Street in Chinatown has Spicy Crab......whole Dungeness with chili sauce and eggs.

One of the top 10 items I've ever eaten......It's ridiculously good.

Since you're coming from the airport, then eating in the Mission, I wouldn't suggest going all the way across the city to Lands End, Ocean Beach, Marina, etc. then coming all the way back.

Haight is pretty close and plenty of walking and shops to browse. Chinatown is a good idea.

In the Mission: Hit up Tartine Bakery!
