I’m going to Vegas at the end of this month for my bday. Spending 5 nights there. I want to be on the strip and something affordable. I’ve narrowed it down to the Excalibur, Harrahs, and the Tropicana. Which of these would you recommend? Feel free to through in other suggestions.

Of those choices, I pick Harrahs. It's a bit more central. Tropicana is somewhat updated, but it's been mostly dead or full of folks who are almost dead every time I've been in it in the last 10 years. Excalibur's better rooms are the Royal Tower. The Resort Tower is ok. It's definitely at the low end pricewise and if you're looking for affordable, it might be your best bet.

I personally much prefer Harrahs location. It's more central strip. I prefer the area between Aria and the Mirage. Although it may not look far on the map, the Excalibur is a long way from center strip.

For this trip, get a players card (Mlife has most hotel options) and spend 2-3 hours per day playing $0.25 video poker (max bet - $1.25/hand). Pick a low beta game and, assuming you know how to play poker by the book, you probably won’t lose more than a few hundred all weekend, at worst.

You’ll drink free while playing and probably get enough tier credits to start getting hotel offers. I did recently on a 2 day trip and now have 3-night comp offers for MLife’s best hotels on the strip (Nomad, Vdara, Bellagio, Aria, etc.), plus free play and hotel food comps. Point is, it really doesn’t take that much risk to really start racking up the points and offers. Just have to stick with a particular group and play in their properties. Stay away from table games. Slots and video poker.

None of those are hotels I would recommend, but if those are the choices, I would pick Harrah's based upon the location.

None. Mandalay Bay for upscale quality at a low price. Flamingo for location.

We stayed at Excalibur on our first trip to Vegas back in 2018 but I would never stay there again. I was considering there or the Flamingo, which I should have spent the extra $100-150 for the week for. Not only location but quality of room would have been better. If you are trying to stay at this price point look into the Flamingo, you can get Go Rooms with a view of the fountains for not much more than the hotels listed.

Park MGM is pretty cheap when I looked, it’s been updated in the past few years. Excalibur is terrible, don’t stay there, unless you love kids running around everywhere and shitty rooms. Excalibur is also filled with a ton of trashy people, and their food selections are terrible.

None, I clump them into the TI, Luxor, Flamingo group... hotels I’ll never stay in.

Check out rates at Mirage or MGM Grand if you don’t want to spend Caesar’s, Bellagio, Cosmo money.

Resorts World is opening first week of July, so you’ll miss that but may have some good deals at initial open.

If I had a gun to my head and had to pick of those listed, I’d do Harrahs for location alone. Could also look at Bally’s

This. Find a deal at Bally’s or Planet Hollywood for a little more money..

None of the above. The Monte Carlo isn't bad but I stay in the Venetian every time I go. I'll spend the extra 40$/night to stay there. It's worth it to me. I also get discounts there from doing what one of the other uses said, get the card and play slots. You won't lose and you will get free food/booze/stay.

Goddamn dude. Yuck.

If these are your only options, Harrahs.

But I refuse to believe these are your only options. If they are...maybe you can't afford Vegas?

I can afford it, but I’d rather go cheap on the actual hotel room to save more money for gambling/partying and shows. I don’t plan on spending much time in my room outside of sleeping. So I just don’t need a super fancy hotel or room.

I'm an avid gambler so I understand that but you also don't want to sleep in little timmy's tummy cum that he left all in the bed from his first ever experience with a hooker named Cynaymon...

The three you listed are just not very clean/tidy hotels. You might find a roach in your bed. (the bug, not weed)

ETA: Harrahs is not that bad.

We were just there a week ago. Stayed at Venitian. Pretty awesome rates.

If you are into sports, make sure you go see the sports book at Circa down on freemont st. Pretty amazing.

Not sure why the downvotes. He asked for other suggestions. My suggestion is stay in a crap hotel this time, but implement a rewards club strategy and never have to do that again. Excalibur is an Mlife property. My suggestion for this trip is to pony up for a cheap room at MGM grand and have a much better experience.

ETA: just by going online and signing up for an Mlife account, I think you get 20% off of your room rate when you book at one of their hotels.

Ok, I get wanting to spend more of fun stuff. However, the problem with the Tropicana and Excalibur is that there's just not much fun stuff to do in that area and if you are gambling/partying there, it's with trashy or old people and those with a bunch of kids.

Think of it this way...the hotel and room fanciness contributes to the group of folks you'll be around for your whole vacation.

Yea I’m probably gonna go with Bally’s if it’s worth the little extra over Harrahs. I’ve crossed out the Tropicana and Excalibur. Thanks you all for the input.

I say none of the above. However, if you must:

1) Harrah's - best location and is ok
2) Tropicana - newly renovated, maybe an underestimated best choice
3) Excalibur - no, just a flat no way. White Trash City should be it's name.

If you spend just about 20 to 30 minutes online, you can find a much nicer hotel than these 3 for a very good price.
