Inlaws have offered to watch our kids in early June and thinking of a weekend trip for me and the spouse. Flying out of MSY or driving, thinking a Thursday through Monday. Was thinking along the lines of a Charleston, Nashville or Beach getaway. We are in our early 40’s and enjoy the outdoors , music , going out for drinks and dinner.

Please post suggestions if you have them. Thanks.

Of your 3 I'd go Nasville, but I'd add Asheville. Went last summer, temps were perfect, tons of outdoor stuff to do, good breweries and restaurants.

I love Charleston. But it will be very hot in June. I have 4 day weekend trips planned for Chicago, NYC, Denver in the next few months.

Based on your criteria, Denver would be nice. Plenty of outdoor activities, nightlife is fun and Red Rocks is a bucket list venue for music in the States.

The idea of a city like Chicago is also appealing, plenty to do during the day with museums and shops and plenty nightlife / restaurants i'm sure.

Going there Easter weekend with fiancé. Not much in the outdoors compared to other places, but we have some fun stuff planned. So far we have:

Dinner at Alinea
A day of museums ( we really enjoy them)
Cubs game
Architecture boat tour on the river/lake
Sears Tower
Trying to decide on a concert/comedy show - can’t make up our mind.
Might hit up the Blue Man Group one night. HaHa

Few other things in the works

I’ve wanted to visit Nashville, but not likely in June.

Considering how quick your trip is, I’d probably look somewhere you can get a direct flight to/from. I’d suggest Denver (Boulder/Fort Collins) or Chicago.

June 18th-21st is the Telluride Bluegrass festival. Hard to top that.

Austin/TX hill country, if you don’t mind the heat
Asheville
Chicago, for a city break....esp if you like museums and dining
Can you leave late in the evening on Wednesday? If so, you could swing a long weekend in London. Leave at 9:15 pm on Wed, fly home Mon at 3:40 pm London time arriving at 7:30 pm NOLA time.

We have the in-law's watching our 3 kids and are 3 hours drive away, so could extend a little but not much. Would love to go to London again, but, time wise probably is pushing it this time.

Even looking at renting a little cottage in the seascape/watercolor area as the in-laws live in Fairhope AL, so we could just drive to a FL panhandle spot.

Any suggestions on spots that way?

Have you looked at the Marriott Grand Hotel in Point Clear? They just underwent a major renovation/upgrade

Right near Water Color is a boutique hotel named the Pearl that is supposed to be very nice

in on Chicago as well ... i try to go every summer. Not too hot, tons of music festivals, Cubs, everyone is maximizing their days after months of heinous cold

and of course the usual year round museums, restaurants etc.

I second Asheville. Wife and i went last June and live it. Hikes during the day and breweries and restaurants after. Great time to sit outside and enjoy great weather

You have a relatively short amount of free time. Only a close drive or a single non-stop flight makes sense.

Chicago or Nashville or Atlanta (get there and get a rental car and head North/NE)

I’d vote for Chicago in June, stay downtown and do all the Chicago stuff.

(I’ll be at Wrigley on May 30th, Cubs vs Reds)

If you are starting in Fairhope, check out the new Mobile downtown airport and Pensacola airport too for flight options. The old Mobile Airport’s fares are historically high as a giraffe’s arse

Early June? I will be in Destin. I love the beach when the weather is nice, but other than that, I would rather be in Charleston, especially if fine dining is a priority. Go to Charleston, stay at the Vendue, have drinks in their bars, especially the one on the rooftop, then go to dinner at SNOB, FIG, or the Peninsula Grill.
